Saudi interests own 17% of America. That's amazing. Also Look at the amount of money Bush borrowed:

800-850 billion from Japan

400 billion from China

300 billion from the EU

65 billion from South Korea

sounds like a recipe for disaster. Watch the dollar, eventually our creditors will catch up to this scam and stop buying bonds and dumping their dollar reserves to either Gold or Euros.

They'll go with the Euro in the not-so-distant future. And that will have a dire impact on the US economy. Should petro dollars become petro Euros, we will cease to be a major military power. No denero, no big ships; no denero, no fuel to run big guns and big ships.

It amazes me that so many people continue to not accept this possibility.

To be fair, SwearBear, Bush did grow up in Texas. Though, he was not born there, as you say. He grew up in Midland. A dusty, nothing town. How apro pos? (sp?

I watched a program on Sky TV today that put forward the theory that the real reason the US invaded Iraq because old Saddam was going to start selling his Oil for Euros. Apparently you can at the moment only buy and sell oil for US Dollars and if the Oil producing countries started selling their oil for Euros it would bankrupt the US.
Perhaps someone in the UK who saw this on Sky one with a better understanding of World Economics could explain to me how exactly that would work?
Also it seems that the Iranians are going to set up their own Oil trading Exchange and invite the Oil producing Middle Eastern countries to trade there using Euroes instead of US Dollars. The Saudies according to the program have an agreement with the US to only buy and sell Oil with US Dollars and that a vast sum of money from Saudi Oil sales, some 600bil annually is transfered straight to the federal reserve and in the return the US gets to use the money as it sees fit and guarentees that the Saudi Royal family stay in power with military aid etc.
Anyone shed any light on this? No links im afraid i saw the show about 2 hours ago.

Dear Janus, right now oil is sold/traded with petro dollars. If OPEC got sick of us, they could always cash out and go with the Euro. That would be a devastating blow to our economy, despite what our media doesn't tell us. If they went with the Euro instead of the dollar, we (the USA) would be screwd.

Ahh petro Dollars, that’s what they called it. The petro Dollar cycle, countries sell goods and services to the US for dollars and then spend those dollars on oil with US currency, nice little money tree the US has going there. No wonder the US has so much cash. I can see now that if OPEC change to Euros it would cause problems, wars have started for less.
Also I remember the program saying that after the US had secured the Oil ministry they had all the transactions that saddam had done with Petro Euros, doesn’t have the same ring to it as petro Dollars does it? Changed back to Dollars. As the Euro at the time was worth 17% more than the Dollar the US effectively wiped out 17% of the Oil wealth made by using Euros.
I really don’t know how sound the programs theory was but it seems a more plausible reason for war than missing WMD.

you are correct. iraq is the only opec country to have switched to the euro and did so in novemeber 2000.

another country that has been considering the move to the euro is..... iran.

Wow, I didnt know that Iraq did this, and Iran plans to. Being an American I hate to say it, but our top brass is screwing us financially, so I almost dont blame people for putting more faith in the Euro. THAT economy seems much more stable. Anybody got any good sources for further reading on the subject?

Well, believe it or not that explains alot. Okay, I study economics as a hobby. So Bush's companies and buddies would be making major bucks with the war and selling "oil stock". The Saudies have a deal with the US Goverment from 1986(; maybe later)? I believe that they transfer the oil sales for US help, food, etc., possible "ally" thing. But that's all I know off hand from old-libary books.

Do you think that our government just uses its outstanding credit rating as collateral? Nope. Our national parks, etc... are all in place to serve as collateral to other countries. Why do you think Clinton made the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in SW Utah? Duh, its one of the largest reserves of low-sulfer coal in the world. Very very very valuable land. Its pretty obvious that he didnt just pass that resolution because he's sooooo concerned with 1.7million acres in Utah. Give me a break.

Recently, after having a discussion with my uncle, i've been enlightened on a few things. First off, it has recently been proposed that the united states "borrow" 400 trillion dollars from china. 400 TRILLION. this kind of money has never been printed in the history of the world. Money in this masses, just doesn't exist. To imagine just 1 trillion dollars, suppose you were born around the time of Jesus Christ; if you spent one million dollars every day, you still would not have 1 trillion dollars. Now try and imagine 400 trillion.

And the collateral for this 400 trillion imaginary dollars? Half of the land of the united states.

Our money used to be backed by gold, then it was silver. Now our money is backed by nothing but a piece of paper, virtually meaningless.

Also, he proposed the theory that the reason that we do not dig up the oil in Alaska is because it is probably already being held collateral for something else.

Just some interesting things i learned just a week ago that i thought i would share.
