"Testing showed the capability of JCM to defeat explosive reactive armor (ERA) at worst-case engagement angles, and main charge unitary testing and tandem testing showed its capability to penetrate the most advanced hull armor," said Barnoske. "The arena tests collected fragmentation and other data that conclusively proved that JCM meets all lethality criteria and will incapacitate any threat against which it is directed."

Earlier tests confirmed the ability of the main warhead to penetrate a brick-over-brick tactical target, as well as the durability and timing of the time-delay fuze that detonates the main warhead inside the target, ensuring target destruction and reducing the risk of collateral damage. The JCM fuze is developed by PerkinElmer Optoelectronics (NYSE: PKI), located in Miamisburg, OH. In December 2004, Lockheed Martin successfully demonstrated the multi-target warhead and fuze in a series of warhead penetration tests at the Redstone Technical Test Center, AL, that confirmed the missile's ability to penetrate and destroy military operations in urban terrain (MOUT) targets.

Shattered,

This looks like an effective piece of kit in testing. I await the battle tests.

Furthermore, they need to come up with a better name, JCM will not cut it.

The Pentagon said they wanted to cut the program but it seems that they have been over ruled.

The Joint Strike Fighter will eventually receive a more "normal" name since it is an aircraft. The same is not true of weapons. JCM is named in the same convention as the Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) and Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM). It is unlikely that JCM will receive a new name as you suggest.

JCM is also in trouble and is currently only funded through the end of the fiscal year (FY2005). It looks like that decision may be reversed since the stocks of weapons JCM was planned to replace (Hellfire, Maverick, and TOW) are being rapidly expended. The Army and Navy have nothing else to replace these weapons with. As a result, it looks like the DoD may keep JCM alive, but the official decision will probably not become known for a month or two.

Rogue,

Do u really want to name the F-35 after a bird that eats the flesh off dead bodies?

Well I suppose it fits the description of what it will do. Since it will not be deployed until the enemies air-defences have been neutralised.

I would have to go with

F-35 Viper
[Mainly because its the unoffical name of the F-16 and due to the fact it will be taking over most of the roles that the F-16 currently is employed in, it seems kinda fitting]

JCM Shrek
[::grins:: Better out that in, I always say lol]

usually its a name design to make the weapon sound and look mean. like f-22 raptor that takes on giant dinosaurs.

Delta,

Raptor = Bird of Prey
Velociraptor = Dinosaur (as seen in Jurassic Park series of movies)(nicknamed raptors in honour of the birds of prey)

Yes, true, the Raptor is believed to have been a bird, it is believed that it grew feathers, but I doubt it could actually fly, just a predator that was dangerous, velociraptor is the famous one.
