Assuming that was an endorsement of the above products, I am horrified any Dr. in their right mind would prescribe viagra to you. The horror.........

You can avoid those pesky pop-ups when logging in by simply bookmarking this: www.abovetopsecret.com...

I rarely log out, but do change my password on a regular basis.

I use IE with MSN9 and I have no problems with pop-ups on ATS. One, I rarely log off and two, I have more pop-up blockers than I can count and three, I run SpyDoctor, Ad-aware, and Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta everyday and four, I have SpywareBlaster loaded and working in the background. I run Spybot and EMCO Malware Bouncer, periodically, as well. I keep a pretty clean machine.

On the contrary, GP. Sounds like your machine is a cluttered, bloated nightmare. One program can replace or negate the need for all of those: Firefox.

Now I see the agenda behind your reporting the security flaws in Firefox on ATSNN whenever they pop up. You sly devil, you. Don't be afraid of change GP, sometimes revolution is a good thing.

I have tried Firefox and while I don't really have anything against it, it is not as intuitive as the MSN9 interface that I now have. Granted, I pay a premium for this service, but I like it. Otherwise, I have never had a security problem relative to IE.

As for all the bloat, you have a point, but even if I ran Firefox, I wouldn't get rid of the utilities. Running them is part of the fun of owning a computer and as most of the problems found by my utilities are tracking cookies and advertising cookies, these are just as likely to get planted using Firefox as IE. In my experience, SpywareBlaster is the best insurance against spyware there is, although it won't delete anything that might get through, but that is a rarity.

I haven't used MSN9 so I can't comment on that. As far as cookies go, FF has a built in cookie manager that can selectively block, allow, allow only for originating site, etc. If you don't think Firefox is intuitive, perhaps you didn't take advantage of all the extensions that are out there. You might want to take another look.

For a while we used to have a bunch of shooting ones that, upon shooting, were supposed to send you somewhere, but didn't. That was fun.

Adds = free money. I like free money, so it's cool.

I think that's part of the problem. I don't have any idea what extensions are and I had problems figuring out basic functions on Firefox, but it's been awhile and I've since uninstalled it. With IE and MSN9, everything just comes naturally and I surf the web with incredible ease. My only problem is that, for some reason, anything I open from QuickLaunch or the Desktop opens in IE so I am in effect using two browser interfaces, although I have but one browser. There's a fix to this, I'm sure, I just haven't been able to figure it out. It's not much of an inconvenience, though and MSN9 comes with other nice features, too boot.

Hey, if it aint broke, don't fix it.

As far as the opening with IE problem, right click on a file you want to open, go to Open With>>Choose program. Select MSN9 from the list that pops up. If it's not there, use the browse button to search for MSN9's exe file. Before you press ok, check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box. In future, when you open that kind of file, it should open with MSN9. Do the same for other types of files and you're set. That should work if MSN9 is an independent program from IE. Hope this helps.

That's the wonderful beauty of Firefox, wecomeinpeace. As your sophistication and knowledge base grows in using it, you can use extensions to further customize and tweek it so it is personally just right for you. By far though, for the average user who really doesn't understand or care about any benefits or pitfalls of one versus another, IE is just fine for them.
