I disagree with you Vangaurd. Yes, there are images we are not READY to see, but why prolong the war and human suffering with cleaned up versions of what is really taking place. The people dying our real people. Not a fictional character that can be clean up and reanimated, like our video games and movies. Americans are desensitzed, some of us don't get that when you blow someone up, they don't stand up and walk away like our culture has taught us.

You have to understand that certain people will respond differently to such graphic imagery.

The Rational response on an individual basis is totally risk adverse - i.e - why are troops exposed to such barbarity. Such an opinion can provide a response which will be detrimental on the aggregate scale.

People in high positions must transcend such an individually rational response and be able to make decisions in the best interest of the whole community such as being prepared to commit troops to a just aggregate cause to defend our way of life and liberty.

yes, and should they not? Shouldn't they be well prepared for the REALITY of what they are sending our troops to. To clean up and down play the horrific acts that actually take place is to decieve us of what is really going on.

What if that were your son blown to bits. If you knew before hand that it was not some clean humane place to be wouldn't you make sure your son or daughter solider never made it there.

Deny Ignorance is the theme of this board. So now veiwers are finally seeing the truth for what it is. We deserve it. Are we such lily livered panty wastes we cannot bare the truth?

Exactly.

To be honest it has no effect on me. I don't know why, but I've never been squeemish about things like that. Kinda helped though when I was a paramedic and saw it in real life on a regular basis.

Everyone’s son is not blown up - to impose that eventuality to every parent will result in no voluntary military participation.

I agree free speech has its positives but in such an instance whereby such free speech would result in a net reduction in welfare and resulting freedoms i would hope to think our governmental ruler would step in and offset our own rational personal self destruction. Again government is in a position to make decisions for societies benefit - not just an individuals well being – they will rationally make the best decision for society as a whole.

Maybe people on this forum are ready - but everyone isn’t. As you are well aware conscientious and intellectually comparable people seek out the information that governments use in their decision processes. Its very easy to criticise a historically taken decision but if you were in their position, given all that they know, you would rationally come to the decision that they come to.

So its ok for Americans to watch COPS for over a decade: a bunch of goons with guns, getting $60,000 a year a piece, bust into a house where the total income is maybe $15,000 tops, ransack the place for a bag of weed. and its all good?

Kids can come home at 3:30PM shoot up a thousand kills before mom and dad get home.

The family goes to the movies to watch Governor Schwarznegger smash a womans head into the toilet because he thought it would be a great scene.

But the same society can't see civilians that have been gunned down and bombed by those guys who are supposed to be defending "our way of life and liberty"?

Ridiculous.

If you watch mainstream news 1 hour you will see 25 minutes of news the rest is advertising. also mainstream news spends a great deal of time on entertainment, they have cut the amount of real news. They also always show one side of the story and really very little of the other side. Mainstream news is owned by 6 corporation and IMO you can now call our news the corporate media. They show you what they want to. The shock and gore is a tactic to get you to watch and think you are getting real news. Talk about controlling, these corporations who sell you things and some also sell war machinery have promoted the war in Iraq and also Afghanistan. You are going to find watered down facts at best on the mainstream news and only the side of the story they want you to believe.
If you want real news watch Free Speech tv it is run entirely from donation from people, no corporate sponsors nor do they accept government funding. There is also no advertising whatsoever on this channel. It has news programs and also addresses other issues such as sex (not porn). Right now it is on the dish and direct but they are trying to branch out so they can be seen by more people. Here is a link to one of their news programs you can watch it online www.democracynow.org... and probably find out if it is shown on some of your channels you have. Here are few of their stories form May 6,2005
-Iraqi Resistance Carry Out Attacks
- U.S. Holding Journalists Without Charge in Iraq
- Gen. Karpinski Demoted for Abu Ghraib
- U.S. Cannot Find $100 Million in Iraq Money
- Colombia Returns U.S. soldiers Accused of Weapons Trafficking
- Fatah Leads in Palestinian Local Elections
- FDA to Recommend Ban on Gay Sperm Donors
