Some sanity prevails in the heart of the Nation!

On August 7th 2023, Missouri Governor Mike Parson (R) signed into law Senate Bill 49

Otherwise known as the "Missouri Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act"

The bill, intorduces on January 4th 2023 by State Senator Mike Moon (R)
and Co-Sponsored by 18 Other State Senators (all Republicans), seeks to prevent Healthcare providers from performing gender transition surgeries on any minor. In addition, and effective until August 28th 2027, no healthcare provider may issue drugs to a minor for the intent of such surgeries.
S.B. 49 summary
S.B. 49 Full Text PDF

This act establishes the "Missouri Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act". Under this act, no health care provider shall perform gender transition surgeries on any minor. Until August 28, 2027, no health care provider shall prescribe or administer cross-sex hormones or puberty-blocking drugs to a minor for a gender transition, unless such minor was receiving such treatment prior to August 28, 2023.

A violation of these provisions shall be considered unprofessional conduct and shall result in the revocation of the health care provider's professional license. Additionally, the prescription or administration of cross-sex hormones or puberty-blocking drugs to a minor for a gender transition shall be grounds for a cause of action against the health care provider, as described in the act.

As you can read, this bill does not effect patients who are currently using said drugs and therapies. In addition it does not effect current or future patients who may require such attention due to medical disorder, illness, infection, disease or other such life threatening circumstance

Finally the Bill also forbids the Missouri HealthNet Program from using public funds for such treatments.

On the same day the Governor also signed into law S.B. 39 which "Establishes guidelines for student participation in athletic contests organized by sex"

This act prohibits a private school, public school district, public charter school, or public or private institution of postsecondary education from allowing any student to compete in an athletic competition that is designated for the biological sex opposite to the student's biological sex as stated on the student's official birth certificate or other government record as described in the act.

Both bills were passed by a large 2/3rds majority in both the Senate and House Legislatures

Already the Media and other organizations have spun this story and tried to demonize the Governor and the legislative members who have passed these common sense laws

Missouri lawmakers pass gender-affirming care ban for minors and anti-trans sports bill
Missouri legislature passes restrictions on transgender health care and sports participation
Human Rights Campaign Condemns Missouri Governor Mike Parson for Signing Two Anti-Trans Bans Into Law

Spouting BS oxymoron's like "gender affirming" and attempting to insinuate that sexual exploitation of minors is a "right", some of these groups have filed lawsuits against the legislation.

In the end, I hope the children are the main concern in any legislation and I hope that any judge will defend them against the cruelty, sexual mutilations and exploitation that is running rampant across the country (the world), as is the intent of S.B. 49.

Gender-affirming care includes medical and mental health care treatments as well as social support.

While I totally get holding off surgery or hormone treatments until they're adults, I'm not sure that restricting mental health care treatments and social support is a good thing. Although, I was unable to see exactly what it will restrict.

So.. hopefully there is still a healthy medium between supporting and helping kids who are trans and disallowing life-changing decisions until adulthood. Or in other words, hopefully this is directed towards helping kids and not just a religious crusade against lgbtq.

GOOD! The vast majority of children who think they are TRANS ... are not. When left alone to go through puberty naturally, they find that they really aren't TRANS. No drugs and no surgeries for minor children! It's far too early for that.

Gender Transition Medications and Surgeries for Children

Only 12–27% of children with gender dysphoria—a condition where one’s perceived gender identity differs from their biological sex—carry it into adulthood, yet many children in the U.S. are still eligible for irreversible therapies and surgeries

I'm not sure where you quoted from so your lack of context makes me unsure how to reply.

This bill doesn't ban mental health or social support programs.
As is quoted in the OP

Yes it makes sense to have them wait, it really is for their own good.

When it comes to the argument in support of these types programs to treat gender dysphoria I get pretty disturbed as there are many known medical causes for the condition, confusion over sexual identity is NOT one of them.

democratically elected representatives

Edit to elaborate: i have far more respect for local elected officials than I do for federal elected officials in that they are the core of power in the constitution. The over reach in the past few decades of the Federal government is evident in that most power is now being derived from executive order which is in itself unconstitutional.
The power that the federal government continues to usurp is taken from the states and the people respectively
So in essence when a law is passed on the state level, it is intended to have more power than any law passed by congress in DC

I live in Missouri and totally approve of this law. The great thing about the laws we pass here is that we do not attract marxist locust like other states do once they have ruined where they are from. They dislike us so much they would rather die than move here. And really, its pretty good here unless you live in certain areas of STL and KC.

Anyway, as I have said many times here before, if you want change in your state you need to pay attention to who you elect locally.

While you still have that right.

Alice Cooper just said it himself, he is against all this gender transitioning in young people -
As he said, it could just be a fad - Good for him!

"Alice Cooper canceled by cosmetics firm after opposing trans surgeries for kids"

Alice Cooper, the eye-liner wearing “Godfather of Shock Rock,” was dumped by a cosmetics company after the singer questioned the rush to perform trans surgeries on kids and said that transitioning genders was a “fad.”

The 75-year-old rock legend, whose hits include “School’s Out” and “Welcome to My Nightmare,” had signed the brand partnership deal less than two weeks ago with Vampyre Cosmetics — which markets spooky and gothic-themed makeup, lipsticks, palettes and lashes.

However, Cooper was canceled by the company after he expressed opposition to “gender affirming care” for minors — which entails irreversible surgeries and hormonal treatments to facilitate the transition to the opposite sex — in an interview with the site Stereogum.

“I’m understanding that there are cases of transgender, but I’m afraid that it’s also a fad, and I’m afraid there’s a lot of people claiming to be this just because they want to be that,” the Detroit native, whose real name is Vincent Damon Furnier, told the site Wednesday.

“I find it wrong when you’ve got a 6-year-old kid who has no idea,” he said, adding: “He just wants to play, and you’re confusing him telling him, ‘Yeah, you’re a boy, but you could be a girl if you want to be.’”

Transition surgeries and puberty blockers are not medical care.

They are mutilations and a crime against humanity and common sense.

Considering the vast majority of children who think they are TRANS really are not,

COMMON SENSE says to wait until after puberty to start so called

transition 'medical care' of surgeries and hormones/testosterone.

This is a common sense law.

That depends on the "when was that in time" part. I think it is frowned on these days.

Better point — I had an excellent doctor who knew what he was doing. He supported modification (too long to explain).

Specialist doctors/psychiatrists are needed for these kids.

Eventually, it will be a specified field.

Each child should be treated individually is all I can say to any medical assessment or treatment.

The ritalin could be the cause for some forms of precocious puberty
A change in hormone levels and brain chemistry is associated with this, and precocious puberty is what most "doctors" are prescribing hormone blockers for, even though the medical science suggest that this only compounds the issues and if researched you would find that they (hormone blockers) do not treat the symptoms. Which is why am so baffled that so many people believe that they actually help
"gender dysphoria" is a generic term and should be tossed into the bin along with "gender-affirming", they are misleading
