In my mind evolution was linked to Neanderthal, some dark Medieval times, some gaps and future dinosaurs.

I have to disagree because they don't ascribe intelligence to it.
While I may agree that some do seem religious about their POV, I see a big difference in how they, compared to people who hold actual religious beliefs, can drop what they believe if a good enough source of data is offered.
For example: James Webb Space Telescope Images Challenge Theories of How Universe Evolved
While not everyone might go down this path, it does show the difference between science as being something still being worked on (not religion) and those clinging to an explanation with nothing but faith supporting it (actual religion).
So what else explains why the universe is expanding, which we can demonstrate.

We are not so sure anymore that there was a bang, as extrapolating all the way back to a singularity leads to predictions that disagree with what we currently observe.
But I get your drift.

I think you misunderstood, but maybe not.
Let me clarify:
I was talking about "evolutionists".
These folks bash other religious folks over the head with evolution.
They go out of their way to try and prove Creation wrong.
Those that see evolution for what it is, a scientific theory, and understand how science works don't do this.
They understand that objectively, science does not and cannot disprove an Intelligent Designer.

I have to have physics explained to me like I'm 13.

Best of luck to them.
If they try, it proves my point.

No it doesn't.
It proves you think only your version of an Intelligent Designer is valid, and it might not be.

Oh, the oscillating universe. Ancient Hindu's knew this. A day and a night of Brahma.
Have they found enough mass to start a contraction?
Has the universe been oscillating for all of infinity? Did some force or phenomena perform the first 'blow' of the balloon?

Exactly!
Faith.
Belief without evidence.
