China appears to be eyeing its first permanent military base on the shores of Africa's Atlantic coast, and Washington – not keen on the idea – has already started a diplomatic effort to put the kibosh on any plans, a report said.

U.S. officials, citing classified American intelligence reports, told the Wall Street Journal that Beijing could be eyeing Equatorial Guinea’s port city of Bata for the base. The report said Bata already comes with a deep-water port that had been upgraded by China Road & Bridge Co. from 2009 to 2014. The report said U.S. intelligence first learned of the possibility of the base in 2019.

I figured they might do something like this in the Caribbean. makes sense to do so in Africa.
further away but still on the Atlantic.

Is China playing chess while the rest of the world plays checkers?

I think it's more accurate to say that China is playing chess while the rest of the world is playing chess.

Although the US is used to other countries playing chess with just pawns and now we seem to be tossing our own pieces off the board as fast as possible.

Makes sense with all the investment they have been making into industry in Africa.

The West doesn't give 2 hoots about Africa, good to see someone does.

No they dont, their investment is all about the minerals and fresh water.

China has a severe water shortage and there is a move (still early) to try and at least slow down their access to fresh water from the US.

Africa has a huge mostly untapped freshwater reservoir; all it takes is some african countries failing to make payments on the loans and china starts scooping up rights and land in africa.

You know that old saying beware the greeks bearing gifts.

The current U.S. Leadership is perfectly capable of averting any problems with any Nation on Earth.

Right? 😁

US due to soo many whores profiting from slave labor in communist china have been lobbying against any repercussions to China that will affect their profits, we all know that whores do not care about anything else but their money.

China has been playing with the whores' greed and knows how to manipulate them.

Even Biden is a whore to china and his entire family.

China will own America before we get a President and congress that will stop the communist from taking over.

Wouldn't be that much of a difference, they already have us by the short and curlies. Eveybody seems to forget they run the container ports at both ends of the Panama Canel. And are building Highways there. They are also suppose to build a cursie ship line at the site of a old U.S. Air Force Base and also the AFB is supposee to be over a telecom trunk line. They have built three bridges and starting another over the Canal.

You can hide a lot of sh@@ in containers, and building a cruise ship line on a old AFB over a telecom truk line and build major bridges over the canal.

Doesn't look all that good to me.

The only care they have for africa is how much they can get from it. Their SOP is to come in looking like the good guy while bribing everyone with a pulse until they control everything. Then they go from nice guys helping out to the guys who take everything you have at a discount.

Sea-power.
Coastal bases established to protect access to markets and raw materials.
Exactly the same reason that Victorian Britain made a point of controlling strategic coastal points (Cape Town, Zanzibar, Aden), though in that case the main object was the security of the route to India.

Africa doesn’t have much in it way of deep water ports on the Atlantic. I can’t wait to see where this goes.

They no more give a hoot and a holler than any of the other colonial powers did back in the day.

Only what Africa can provide them in the way of minerals and other assorted things. They don't care about their own people, what makes you think they're going to care about the fate of Africans??

Meanwhile our politicians in much of the west are snorting coc aine and otherwise incompetent corrupt assholes.

China is raping the seas, literally with illegal fishing boats of west Africa, probably many more than we know but registered with flags of convenience in African nations.

Then there is the tactical problem, a base in the Atlantic gives China an excuse to stage Atlantic operations, war games, move flotillas around Russia and south through European waters and US waters as well as around south Africa and Argentina into the southern Atlantic and bring there missiles ever closer to western targets, bully third world nations and rape even more of the seas fish stock's literally raiding OUR Larder to fill there cupboards, what do you do when someone steals your food and leaves your kids hungry?.

If we were to believe some ancient Indian texts it's all happened before and ended with the destruction of civilization.

Then we have some loons that claim there is a prophecy of the yellow man ruling the world and I was even told it was in the bible but have NEVER read it there so believe that one was made up, however the Chinese Elite seem to think it is true and given how idiots are in charge over here it may just be so.

LOL at the notion that China is interested in Africa for philanthropic reasons.

You seem unaware of the Chinese M.O. with respect to providing loans for, e.g. improving infrastructure, construction, management of ports/airports, and then later coming to collect on the loans at inopurtune times for the borrower, which leads to a default and then to Chinese takeover/ownership of those assets.

Good luck to them in the Faustian bargain; they are going to need it.
