That doesn’t answer Where in the constitution is that power granted.

Suing the States for un-Constitutional behavior?

Bro, the Constitution isn't a list of things the government can do, it's a list of what the CANNOT.

So Trump should have ignored the CDC?

Yes, if they were not for a method that caused this economic disaster.

Really?

constitutioncenter.org...

Section 2
The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

Lots of shalls?

I thought the US constitution listed what powers the President has.

Now...

That doesn’t answer Where in the constitution is that power granted.

Didn’t the CDC recommend shutdowns?

Remember, we all in this together said the Hollywood elites.

It isn't Hollywood crushing the middle class and small businesses, it's your President and Congress. Let me know how much you love the airline bailout that you'll soon be paying for.

Don’t let your TDS get the best of you. This is strictly on Congress and yes both sides. Trump has been in office not even a whole 4 years and doesn’t write the bills he only gets to sign bills agreed to in Congress. Looks like you are taking a hit from this economic downturn, since in the past recessions it seemed you liked to make light out of the situation and crack jokes. Not so funny this time?

Real easy stuff, this.

Right, because he has no oversight into what gets signed and the direction given to his own party.

Has the value of the dollar increased or decreased during these times?

Has our faith in money increased or decreased during these times?

Either way.

The house is where bills are created. Since its controlled by democrats the president has zero pull. If nancy refuses to take action all he can do is complain. Unless republicans can retake the house Trump doesnt decide anything alll he can do is tweet hoping to get Nancy to bring a vote to the house floor.

People will defend this as capitalism, but this is not capitalism. People will dismiss critics of this state of affairs as socialists, but criticism of this is not socialism

Capitalism implies competition. There is no competition in todays market. The market is divided between a handful of global megacorporations, who make deals behind the scenes. This is not capitalism. This is oligarchical corporatocracy.

Endless consumerism to rob the wealth from the lower & middle class and concentrate it into the hands of the rich. An unsustainable model, but that is of no consequence to these people.

The wealth is only a means to an end. They want power. Something they clearly have in droves since they can dictate the policies of nominally sovereign states. But power is an ends unto itself. Something that will not willingly be relinquished.

Wrong. there's this neat thing called a 'veto'. Unless the House has a supermajority to override the veto, which the Democrats don't, then it doesn't pass. See how cool our government functions?

Wrong again, buckaroo, see above.

Then no money gets spent on bailouts and that's an even better thing.

It amazes me how many people argue against their own interests. They balk at the concept of transferring wealth from the richest to the other 99.9%. All while ignoring that since Reagan the rich have seen their wealth skyrocket, while the middle class have seen their wealth stagnate, and the amount of people under the poverty line has increased.

Wealth transfer has been going on for 40 years it's just opposite direction of what most people think of when they hear wealth transfer. The rich are stealing money from the lower classes and there are so many people from those classes that defend them.

How many trillions of dollars were thrown into the stock market earlier this year with no regard for where the money came from? That was your money being spent to benefit the wealthy. Yet when it comes time to fund something beneficial to the masses, say universal healthcare, suddenly the money is nowhere to be found.

Absolutely nowheres, if they aren't written. Trump already said he would sign off on a bailout bill for the people without the pork. Now, all they gotta do is write the bill.

You know what kind of bill I would love to see passed? A bill that states every new bill can be on one topic only. Cut the pork out for good. No more of this BS attaching little pet crap that has nothing to do with anything to bills, to ride the coat tails of important issues. Probably never happen, but one can hope.

I'm far from a billionaire, but I did manage to make a pretty good return by buying at the bottom of the stock market. That opportunity was there for everyone.

Which is fine with me as I said earlier I'd rather have a dead bailout bill than a bailout bill that passes.

Sadly riders are a fact of life, I don't even know if that can be legislated out of existence.

Real easy stuff, this.

Trump’s Legal Authority to Overrule Governors on Coronavirus Is Limited
The president can use his political sway and powers of the purse, but he can’t force states to ease restrictions

But his formal power to force states or business to bend to his will is quite limited, even in an emergency situation such as a pandemic.

Pay attention, the Department of Justice can challenge the shutdowns as un-Constitutional just as Michigan's was found to be.

The Department of Justice reports to who? Why is this so hard for your to understand?

No, it's state governments. Without them locking everything down people would be back to work in much larger numbers. Layoffs would be less dramatic. Fewer bailouts would be needed. No matter how much you want to pin this on the federal government, they're only reacting to a situation created by local/state govs.
