This is one thing I never saw coming.

Looks like we canceled South by SouthWest this year. All of the big name companies pulled out in fear of the virus. 350 million in revenue down the drain.

Though... I can't really see this as a bad thing. Hear me out...

Austin's SXSW used to be a festival of music, here in this fun-filled city. Now, it's all choked up on big brother corporations, liberal companies like Facebook, Twitter and so forth. Unfortunately, music is only a small portion of the festival now and this SUCKS! Austin is known for its live music attractions. Once you could go to any bar downtown and there would be a band playing. It's a little sad now... Fewer bands but it's still not terrible. Although, a certain element that was never here before has started to take over. Throw in a few gangs and random gunshots... Oh yeah... A crap ton more homeless at every major intersection as California brings even more....

Millions of people hit up SouthX every year and for the bums, scams and drug addicts, it's open season.

Don't feed the crackheads!

Before going off on a tangent about how California and liberals are ruining Austin Texas...

So this year, all of those corporations are staying away... Maybe this year I can go downtown and see some great free bands without being overcrowded by liberal tourist supporting big brother and identity thieving corporations that want to suck you dry. Music lovers... This is our time to finally have a piece of solace for once in a long while without all the riffraff.

Hopefully the virus wont scare musicians away but I do fear this may also be the case. Even major concerts are canceling. I currently have x2 tickets to 4 major shows (Slipknot, Megadeth, Breaking Benjamin, Faith No More, Lamb of God and Korn. I'm going to be highly upset if they cancel these concerts in the coming months.

I'm concerned about the virus too but not enough to stop the world!

well, last week New Hope cancelled the largest health conference in the world in Anaheim. 86k+ of us had to reschedule the whole week.

South x Southwest and all large venues for the next 4 weeks minimum, Id suspect.

Several large conferences held in Chicago every year have cancelled at McCormick place.

If this keeps up, the economy is going to be in the toilet.

I do research on events that happen in large cities around the country.

This week I was working West Coast cities. I am working June at this point, but every other website I pulled had corona notices on them. I noticed them on the San Jose Earthquakes, several museums, Pacific Northwest Ballet, etc.

I read that the NBA is pushing games without the fans being able to participate and players countering that they wont play without the fans in attendance. It's a mess for sure. One college team in MA is doing just that - game on with no fans.

You would think that this will cause many 'things' to drop in price and some have. More junk for us to buy, eh? Apparently not so much. The fed keeps dropping rates but the banks wont drop with it. Mortgage loans should be really low right now but I've been looking to buy a new home since August and those bastards wont even touch the 3% range with my 700+ score (and no baggage). They want to pump it to 4 and 5%. My guess is, they don't want to lose money and maintain a high profit since the demand is much higher than the availability, especially here in Austin. California are buying homes here like people are buying facemasks... Banks should be sued for this.

I'm sure it wont be long before my office starts telling people to stay home and work from there. They do it when we have bad weather or icy roads, I'm thinking this is next.

We still have some local bands in the Bars around here, the cover charge is still reasonable too.

But, the cops still like to pull people over at closing time, so you need a designated driver.

It does not have to cost a lot of money to have a great time, but people are brainwashed to believe it is so these days. Look how many people spend over eight hundred bucks on a cell phone when in a year the same phone costs less than three hundred new and the bugs are often worked out of it after a year. Our phone cost sixty bucks and twelve bucks a month for the minutes and data. We talk with others when we are out, we do not walk around or sit around staring at the phone when we are somewhere, in fact, we shut it off or silence it. The grandkids and kids are always on their phones when they come over, even when they are eating.

Haven’t been to SXSW in 4 years. I always had a good time. Makes sense to cancel it though. Streets packed with people shoulder to shoulder drinking and doing drugs, immune systems compromised. Add to that whatever bugs people bring with them flying on airplanes from all over the country. It’s a perfect recipe for an outbreak.

This better not happen to Bonnaroo. I’ll be angry about that. June is a ways out though.

Or "Burning Man" I have a contract with a video production team to make yet another documentary.

I went to "BM" a few years ago and I can't imagine a better place for a virus to go viral. Human on human contact was rampant.

Well this sucks. Surely a sign of less traveling people. My job is in tourism.

A woman wouldn’t shake my hand this morning because of this virus. Costco is out of toilet paper.

People are overreacting.

Please let this doom porn go away.

I suspect that Wrestlemania and Cisco Live US are going to be next on the canceled list.

I have no info to indicate that for Wrestlemania just a hunch with it being a month away in FLA.

CLUS on the other hand I have some unique information that tells me it's already being planned and discussed as its the first week in June in Vegas.

We hit up the local butcher shop for some pork cushion, and they have a weekly street taco crew. They had the salsa bar somewhat restricted. You had to ask for your cups and the gal working as very apologetic, but admitted it was because of corona virus that they were handing them out instead of letting people just take them as needed.

Not sure if I agree with you that Wrestlemania will be cancelled.

Between FOX deals and those fat Saudi Arabia paychecks, WWE is in full money making mode and I doubt they'll want to jeopardize one of their biggest paydays of the year.

Something like that may have to switch their focus.

They may have to produce a pay per view only event where those who had tickets either opt for those tickets to be honored at a possible later show or have some kind of deal with the pay per view event with proof of purchase of ticket.

We may be looking at something like this with many pro sports for a limited time.

We were far from complaining about it. It is completely understandable and very, very small measure to take, but they are trying to think ahead.

So far as we know, there are no cases in our neck of the woods yet, but that means nothing since we are a major rail, truck, etc., crossroads.

Strange thought.
Quit using cash because if you can think of anything dirtier than it just tell us. Go cash free for a couple of months you don't know where it's been.

I don't know who you are calling that is offering high mortgage rates. I work in the mortgage business and have been at office till 1am every night this week. I've been locking in sub 3% rates all week and low 3s on 30 year fixed mortgages. Rates are the lowest they've ever been.
