Not trying to shut you down or discourage you from participating in this thread (quite the opposite, would love more involvement in this thread from all members interested), but there have been at least a dozen members who keep derailing this thread and saying this event is over-hyped, laughable, etc. and it isn't any of those things.

Many of us are here because we want to keep up with the latest and also try to contribute to ongoing research. Hope that helps clarify your perception of this being a "fear mongering" thread, because it isn't that at all.

if it IS TRUE 'this is WAY worse then what were being told' I DO WANT TO KNOW (this IS ATS after all)!!

actually might be getting it is good courteousness to post evidence and not withhold information you know

Spanish Flu in early 1900s (1917-1918) had 3 massive waves that infected about 1/3 of the world population. The 3rd wave wasn't as severe (but obviously this SARSCoV-2 seems to have a number of other tricks up its sleeve as well)

The second wave of the 1918 pandemic was much deadlier than the first. The first wave had resembled typical flu epidemics; those most at risk were the sick and elderly, while younger, healthier people recovered easily. By August, when the second wave began in France, Sierra Leone, and the United States,[83] the virus had mutated to a much deadlier form. October 1918 was the deadliest month of the whole pandemic.[84]

This increased severity has been attributed to the circumstances of the First World War.[85] In civilian life, natural selection favors a mild strain. Those who get very ill stay home, and those mildly ill continue with their lives, preferentially spreading the mild strain. In the trenches, natural selection was reversed. Soldiers with a mild strain stayed where they were, while the severely ill were sent on crowded trains to crowded field hospitals, spreading the deadlier virus. The second wave began, and the flu quickly spread around the world again. However, this virus isn't "behaving" as others have in the past, part of why others wonder if there's actually something else underneath going on. We've seen videos (perhaps unconfirmed as genuine) for days now of Chinese people collapsing in the street.....don't think anyone's really discussed this. Let's just say those videos are real, for a moment. So, you are healthy enough to put on your clothes, your mask, go outside your apt. or house, get down to the street, walk around a while, and then just....POOF, end up collapsing????? Now that's all observational conjecture based on not sure what I am seeing in vids being real, anyway. However, it doesn't fit the "model or behavior" of people having cold/flu/being sick, and then just quite suddenly keeling over.

But by the science of "viral history," this virus isn't "behaving or reacting" the way others, whether they be flu, common cold, rhinovirus, other coronaviruses, H5N1, etc. have in the past. Not knowing exact transmission, oral/fecal like polio, or aerosol as many others, or even perhaps BOTH; not knowing incubation periods, and also not being able to predict mutation to understand second/third wave potentials is NOT KNOWING......

so perhaps, it's just best we all err on the side of caution. Prepare some food stores and meds, and hope and pray for the best.

Been thinking about possible exposure to this virus and ways it can travel and I thought by post is a possible way, not parcels from amazon but normal postman... letters, envelopes??

How many could become infected this way? Many thousands with one postman.

As this is an updates thread I thought I'd give a sort of synopsis.
1) 60,390 cases worldwide as of writing this post (source throughout is BNO)
2) 14,840 new cases in 1 day in Hubei (ground zero). Includes a redefinition of coronavirus. 218 dead which is highest so far (likely these are still not real figures)
3) 4 new cases in Japan incl a 20 something year old dr and a taxi driver. New cases include an 80 year old who died.
4) new cases (?10) in Vietnam and village on lockdown
5) 44 new cases on Princess cruise ship in Japan port bringing total to 218. Not all passengers tested. Some passengers (mainly elderly) being allowed to disembark possibly soon.
6) 8 new cases in Singapore.
7) 1 new case in Texas, US bringing total to 15. Person was in quarantine since 7.2.20 flight.
8) North Korea extends quarantine to 30 days although officially they have no cases. Prevention better than cure right?
9) UK 9th positive case was tested 3 days ago, sent home to wait her fate, then returned to hospital once confirmed in an Uber. Not sure she will get a 5 star review for that one. Talk of possible Paddington area case and GP surgeries getting a thorough clean for first time in ages in Islington and Somerset.
10) officials sacked in Hubei and Hong Kong. The latter one intrigues me most.
11) talk of even more serious quarantine in Hubei. But given that the ship has well and truly sailed I am not sure of the point of this other than to save face? Also thousands more medical staff shipped in from elsewhere. What happened to the last lot (I saw a propaganda video of some nurses who 'voluntarily' shaved their heads to prevent infection spread.)
12) lots of talk re origin of virus. Lots of opinion, little data shared from medical journals. Opinion does not pass peer review.
13) talk of the virus having been released by some unnamed govt to cause a war. Occam's razor dictates (at least to me) that this is more likely to be human error or Darwin having a good laugh.
14) German original case is no longer positive and hasn't infected his mates. Hopefully he will be out of quarantine soon.
15) UK released lots of peeps from quarantine on the Wirral. Wonder if they will update tripadvisor. Apparently none of them admit to threatening to leave in a drunken rage. But I believe Hancock (govt health official) version.
16) Westerdam ship docked in Cambodia. 100 tested and all negative (results were available at the fastest than ever speed within the hour I believe)

I'm sure there's more but it's hard to keep up with and I'm sure we should be looking into the stuff that's known and verifiable (like in the Fukushima thread when we had experts analysing the aerial footage etc). I'm not saying that to be rude to anyone in particular but this is the biggest quarantine event in my lifetime

Hey ARM: No where did I mention proof.....
That's kind of the whole point to me: It's no longer about who is right and who is wrong. The minute you get to that point where that's all that is important in any relationship, you are screwed, IMHO. This is just about sharing info so people can make up their own minds, prepare and try to remain safe and survive whatever is coming, including but not limited to just people attacking them who are overinvested in whomever's more accurate.

You missed my point entirely, that IF it were your last days, is that how or why you would want to spend your last time being healthy, or be remembered, because that is perhaps the most unhealthy thing you can pursue emotionally.....

my take away from your post is that governments are scrambling to react to this situation and it seems as if there isn't an active plan in place... so we are just seeing the initial stages of this nonsense..

Really.. I gave links directly from published articled and papers from biotech to the Lancet. I posted the info that I was emailed through my "job" on here from the WHO... so folks could see the pathetic response. Links links and links.. even a link from a 2018 research paper finding the nCOV19 now covid virus in a swine population in Guangdong. All one would have to do is READ and not attack posters and whine about not having read things for themselves.
