I was very impressed with a post and I starred it.I didn't think a star was enough
so I replied and then gave two thumbs up.Now,it seems that was an off topic offense.
I have done this before and was never penalized and I'm wondering why now? If
a new rule has been made and I wasn't aware,I'll try and read the T&C's again and
refresh my memory.

Ahhh..
Looking into the ATS history.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Karen.. (The boss complainer)

But a mod should have told you why. ATS white envelopes don't light up anymore, but check there. My guess is somones feelings got hurt and they wanted a cookie.

Do. Not. Seek. The. Treasure.

Long story short, mods gotta mod sometimes, don't take it personal. It depends on the situation, the mod's mood, if there was a complaint logged etc.

The points and penalties mean nothing. You're not a real member if you haven't lost 500 points or more.

Just keep up the great posts it'll all work out

Was the reply only the two thumbs up? If so it can be considered 'off topic' if it's in the main forums.

WOW i use the thumbs up feature a lot in my posts and have never heard of it being off topic ? , I use it to say thanks buddy
for taking the time to respond .

Now i am totally confused as last night i was informed that the OK sign with your fingers is now racist to use ?? wtf

THIS.
If it was on the BTS side of things, it's fine.
On the front page topics, you can thumbs up but preferred if it was part of a post that included more comments.

Or/especially if it was just two thumbs up for the post 2 above her's that was "removed for a manners violation". In those instances I've seen them remove the subsequent posts that added nothing further to the thread (other than support for the manners violation) to curtail thread drift.

Posts that ask for stars and flags are routinely removed when seen.
Posts that are only reporting that a member was given stars, flags and
are also routinely removed when seen.

The proper places to ask why a member post is removed is the alert/complaint function mentioned.
Or a PM to the staffer.
As a privacy matter, this info is only given to the post author.I
