This is becoming quite a popular meme on the interwebz.

It's a quote by Japanese author, Haruki Murakami. Taken from his novel 1Q84, so it's not necessarily a view held by the author.

I'd like to slightly amend the statement to read, "Everyone, deep in their hearts, has a death wish"; meaning everyone lives their lives as though it is a finite thing, with a beginning, middle, and end.

Of course we KNOW our lives will end as a simple fact, but I also think we embrace it. In a sense, we want it.

Many people hope for eternal life after death...but would anyone really want to live for ever? Especially here on Earth? I doubt it.

Discuss.

I would, and eventually technology will fly my immortal self into the far reaches of space.

It's Not that we want to see the literal END of the world

what people REALLY want to see but don't realize it yet -- although the protesters in HK get it 100%

People 'want Out' from the MADNESS that is "sold to us/enforced upon us" that I once desceibed like this:

""You've gotta get a job and a a house in a nice place
Get a new car and a partner with a pretty face
Feed the Kidz and give a dollar to the space race!
Sheesha gotta get some drugz for my headache!
Gotta get some Love for my heartache!

The hardest part about living in a crazy world is that you have to act like all the other Crazy people So you look Normal! It's Crazy!

It would have to dig you up first and reconstruct your DNA from the soil. It would have to be bothered as well. Good luck.

I definitely don't want to see the end of the world.

That's why I fear a global catastrophe, like nuclear war. It's not that I will die. It's that EVERYONE will die and the human race will end.

I'm quite happy with the idea that I will eventually die but that the story of intelligent life will carry on.

Ummm...those are very good questions...my opinion for whatever that's worth is that very few would truly like to see the world end...perhaps I'm wrong...

I think a lot of people would like the world to be remade...in their own image...mostly along ideological or religious lines...

Personally...I would prefer that humans were a great deal cleaner about their environment...

I also love the world...existence...consciousness...and life...so...that's a no for me...
I do not wish for or desire an end to existence...or the world...or humanity...

Maybe people want the world to end because theres absolutely no, none, zip, nada enforcement of the law for the rich in this world.

Politicians run riot now. They now use the law as a club against the people.

We're promised a better existence after this one. Where everyone is equal and crime doesn't exist because you want for nothing.

I think the single biggest problem on this planet is the manufacture of needs.

I just want a world where I leave people to live in peace and I get to do the same. The problem is that looney people and governments are always trying to inflict their beliefs and ideologies on others.

The red heifer has been sacrificed. According to some this is just the beginning of the apocalypse.
The ashes will purify the Jewish people.

Apparently the rest of us are SOL

I want to be left alone and less control and manipulation, if the end of the world is necessary to achieve this, fine.

I would like the world to keep on. I would just rather it exist without people that power trip and think they need to tell me how to think and to live.

Sorry you're wrong. I don't feel that way at all so your theory is bunk.

Also, you don't instruct me to discuss. You can take your 4chan and Reddit antics back there.

Eternal life, without ageing. Say 28 or 30 for ever. I could be all about that. If you get board go back to school in a different subject. If your really board have a three way once in a while. How hard could it be to live like Conner McCloud in the movies Highlander, but with out the eternal conflict.

It is far too ethnocentristic to be true. I would be more likely to believe s prophecy that includes all people and all religions not just one made up for certain people.
