I was referring to AScrubWhoDied, not you. I agree with everything you posted. But now people are defending this story because of Kitty Genovese, a woman probably one dude heard about and obviously didn't bother to research. So another guy comes in, both probably Millennials, and says "None of you guys must have ever heard of Kitty Genovese, as if she's some precursor to the way kids act these days.

Ok, I thought we were on the same page but wasn't sure. The only thing they have in common is that they are both very sad.

I hail from the UK myself mate, there are still consequences to our actions, Police around or otherwise.

Weans still have not got any fear all the same, plug you soon as look at you, but what goes around tends to come around.

Idiots are always apt to choose to learn the hard way.

Might be nice if the silly wee bastards had something better to do other than go around playing stabby stabby for kudos.

Youth culture is influenced by the adult world, And the BS we produce... Who are the American heroes? teachers, scientist, humanitarians? Nope, it's the people that kick ass, sports figures, the powerful on TV, Countless simulated murders on TV every day. What kind of video games do kids play? Are they violent? Glorified threats of violence even in our political realm...

What do you expect?
Look what I found.....just a few of the old ATS emojis...

We have met the enemy and he is us........pogo

I think you missed the point...

I wish they had even an ounce of Kickass in them, but what we see here is pure apathy plain and simple. They would stand there to get 1 million YouTube hits even if it kills someone. The other side of all this is I would bet my paycheck this isn't a functional neighborhood and most what we witness in many of these acts are in dysfunctional areas from local government, law enforcement, schools and families. This is why kids do this, this is why police shoot unarmed kids, this is why schools fail and families are replaced by gangs. These are cancerous sores in America that get all the attention to make people think all of America is like this and it is actually a very small percentage.

I think you'd lose your paycheck. From the looks of it Oceanside NY looks pretty middle class suburbia to me.

Percentage of residents living in poverty in 2016: 5.2%

The other story I had about the girl getting punched over and over, was as hometown and apple pie as you get. If you want to get down to demographics it is considered one of the safest places in the entire United States.

gang member here in Chicago killed inside a house party. A portion of it was filmed. Must have been like 70 people in the room. Someone let off like 14 shots in a clear "gang hit"

Darwinian imperative?

Precisely...

Technology has sped up the process exponentially; And it will continue until draconian measures are applied. Either way it going to get gnarly. Glad I don't have kids....!

It's a paradox.

Have kids and hope that they make a difference or have kids and they become part of the machine.

I don't think we are at the point where it is too late yet. Take into account depopulation and that one, two or however many lives might be the change that humanity needs.

Your posts suggest you are somewhat successful in life.

Never give up.

I do consider myself very successful. And the main reason is because I could pursue my passion for business and creation without having to worry about raising a family. My relatives and inlaws consider me and my lady selfish assholes. They can ***k off. I don't tell them how to live their lives. We don't regret our decision not to have kids in the least.

We aren't giving up....Children and the worship of freedom is a difficult mix.

btw...I would welcome someone to have offspring that could change the culture instead of the spoiled brats I usually encounter. I taught school for 2 years...voice of experience. I don't find kids killing other kids surprising in today's violent culture. They practice for hours and hours on xbox; killing another kid is just part of the game.

HOW ABOUT SAYING 'DON'T LET YOUR CLASSMATES STAB EACH OTHER- INTERVENE'? THAT SEEMS MORE LIKE WHAT NEEDS SAID TO ME....

I blame the teachers and the parents. They are WAY too 'forgiving' pussified lenient
I see it in public all the time.
I am only 36 and we watch 'parents' of kids let them run havoc. Both of our parents on my and my wife's side would have just slapped us and said behave. And it works...

Maybe, but when you look at Oceanside there seems to be areas you or I would not live in...

That has been proven time and time again as false. If it was true then the billions of other kids that play the same games would be violent too. On the other hand, parents have the vast majority of the influence in how their kids turn out to be. Negative or just plan lacking influence will reap bad kids that turn into bad adults.

Right on! I just turned 40 and if I was getting out of hand, I'd hear my dad's belt pop every loop on the way out.

Spare the rod, spoil the child.

Nothing is worse than someone's kid running amok and knocking stuff over in your house. When my 3 year old gets out of sight, I'm calling him back. When he gets out of hand, it only takes the motion of me getting up to calm him down immediately. If you don't instill fear and discipline, they'll run over you your entire life.

I'll never understand the parents who let their kids destroy other peoples' houses.

The sad fact is that many kids in my generation were punished to the point of abuse. The pendulum swung too far and now this generation of kids were raised with almost zero discipline. Now if you say a harsh word to a child it is considered child abuse. Trust me they need it, especially teens.

I have friends that are game developers. How do you think a game called "Chicago" would fly?

Ding ding ding!

Winner winner winner!

A child is extremely impressionable and if there's nobody to lead them in the right direction then they'll follow the path of least resistance, which almost always turns out to be a rotten path. Lazy raising is a huge problem, giving your kids everything they want so they'll stay out of your hair, etc. I have 4 boys from a previous marriage and they've never met an adult that didn't praise their gentleman behavior and manners. Now I have a 3 year old boy that I'm raising the same.

Guns are completely irrelevant to the story had there been a gun involved there would have been a stampede of kids running away not filming. You 2nd amendment hardcore's use every opportunity to deflect away from gun violence. I'm not anti 2nd amendment but the sheer denial and lack willingness to discuss gun violence baffles me. My theory is that guns are highly addicting to some and I have seen it with my own eyes when people feel the power of a gun it's like a drug and feel the need to keep buying gun after gun after gun, similar to tattoo enthusiasts.

Oh I don't think it's lack of willingness to discuss gun violence. Far from it in fact.
It's the same old tired arguments that lead to nowhere that end the discussion.
This country has had the freedom to carry firearms for over two centuries.
The wide availability of semi automatic rifles and pistols for over a century.
Yet school shootings were extremely rare occurrences until the last couple decades.

But it's the guns....
It's obviously more but that never seems to make it into the discussion.
Until everything is on the table I will not be willing to discuss handing over my firearms.

Chicago is not nearly as scary as people make it out to be.
I'm a tiny woman and I've been all over the place in Chicago, South side by myself, North Chicago, Waukegan,
just all over. If you mind your own business you'll probably be OK.

Now Florida is another story. Florida has random crime and too many crazy people. It doesn't matter where you are, in Florida you are always a target. That is why there are so many gated communities. For a false sense of security (and it is false)

I think it is relevant. We hear so many times that guns killed that person etc. No it wasn't the guns it was the person. Right now there are a lot of mentally disturbed young people. If we take away the guns I think we'd be seeing a lot more stabbing scenarios. If you look at countries that ban guns you will find that stabbing scenarios are climbing rapidly. The question should be what is causing this want/need for young people to commit this type of violence?

Not only that, but on the teacher front, I believe a lot of the teachers just don't give a # anymore which is a crying shame literally, because most kids are with their teachers more than their parents. It is the school's responsibility to not just instill the 'information' but also the humanizing aspects of a proper society of true respect, logic etc.

Then the teachers that DO care, are not actually subject matter specialists like they should be, they are 'educators' who are fully indoctrinated into SJW BS and not facts, and they care about the wrong things.

We don't want kids because we can't really afford them and were never really interested.
