C'mon, we could just call it Old Mexico.
We love their food/drugs/and cheap labor, they love coming here, why not just accept we are too interwoven and make the most of it.

If we look back in history we will see the only reason we didn't completely take over Mexico is that they had too many Catholics.
Oh, and they were too mixed ethnically. Is that really an issue these days?

Imagine a merged US and Mexico, there are a lot of benefits on the global scale.

Sounds like some NWO type BS but ok. I'll entertain it, even if Mexico and the U.S. won't. Cheaper drugs, better food. What's to lose?

Yes and further south too. Only way to keep China out.

Mexico is too overtly corrupt.

We would be in a MAJOR armed conflict with their criminal infrastructure, top to bottom in order to even START a so-called 'merge'.

The positives do not outweigh the negatives nor the heartburn it would take to make it feasible.

They are 'them' and we are 'us'. That's what sets us apart from every other country. We are extremely unique.

A merger with Mexico at this point, would be like happily contracting herpes.

IMHO.

The US is just as corrupt, it really is, it is just hidden better, or Americans like to believe the lies.
It just like everyone believe the South is more racist, they aren't, they are just more open about it, people are just as
racist up north.

Ok, fair enough.

I'll switch gears then.

We can't afford to absorb Mexico's 'problems'.

It would be economically dangerous.

Too late. we could have done it after the Mexican War. There was literally nothing to stop us. However, two problems: Too many Catholics, and the resulting new states would gave been slave states. So, no deal in Congress. That's what happened.

Adding 32 States plus the Southern Border would be much smaller 😃

64 more Senators and about 132 more Congressional Districts !!

Possibly a territory and I'd suggest if we were to do this, we should consider all the way down to Colombia (ending with Panama). There's lots of reasons this would be beneficial for all countries. I do have to say that the only way this would be beneficial is if there was a new political process created, one that could reduce corruption (reduced/elimination of lobbying & dark money in politics) while in office or getting into office.

From what I've heard, corruption is terrible in all those countries an if that could be dealt with (new political process & local "militias" maybe) and a cleaner government installed, then their citizens & country would greatly benefit.

IDK if setting a time frame where they are a territory would be beneficial, time to install a new gov system and create a track record and work out the flaws (40-100 years - depending on country) - then once they are able to run on their own, they could regain their independence and have the tools and infrastructure to keep corruption in check - and they'd have jobs (from better infrastructure) to keep from falling back into rampant corruption.

Now I doubt this type of thing would be desirable for the politicians of the US, b/c they like corrupt governments - as long as it works in their favor - so there's no incentive for them to fix the corrupt political system or build infrastructure and jobs in other countries. It's like the Democrats - keep em poor and keep em dumb and you'll have a voter for life!

It would be a problem for the same way the EU was a problem for countries like the PIGS. There is too big a disparity in the relative economic levels for it to be workable.

That's a great idea, we should really merge with Canada too.

Us, Canada and Mexico all United as one country.

That would be awesome. I'm all for it!

The benefits would be outstanding! We would have so many resources at our disposal!

IMO, the reason there will be no merger is because 100 million Mexicans would migrate to the western half of the US bringing their cultural heritage with them. Might as well call that Mexico along with the Mexican country.

Who knows maybe many American would move further south. Look at Florida and its population growth the last 5 years.

It would never work.

The Mexican people would get sick of US government regulation really fast, and in a year or so, we'd be hearing rumblings of "Mexit 2025."

The anti-Immigrant American crowd would get sick of "them Hispanic Mexicans" as equals and we'd hear rumblings of an Amexit.

Too late... Mexico already took us over. America is just too stupid to realize it. Look at California, AZ, New Mexico and Texas....

ahem.

The person who wanted to take more of Mexico in the war between us was none other than Jefferson Davis.

Yes, THAT Jefferson Davis. So in the universe where we took more of Mexico is likely the same one where the confederacy won the civil war.

That being said, nobody wanted to take the entirety of Mexico, as it would be way to much to take at one time, and too great a culture shock for both nations, even at that time.

Not enough infrastructure. Too many cartels.
