I also don't see "mod" anywhere in your job description.

Nor will you ever see that...because I am for free speech not hate speech.

Excuse me?

You are excused.

Cool.

I'll restore your ability to post on ATS when I get a PM/Email from you apologizing for implying that our staff engage in hate speech.

You are excused.

they also ban any patter that is related to trump so its not just speech they dont like its anything that reminds them of the president, also oddly enough they aren't taking new members to the forums at the moment perhaps its because they are getting push back from this from the online community www.ravelry.com... ya now have to get a sign up link sent

twitter.com... twitter feed has been kind of interesting and some pretty funny memes

Here's a statement if their new policy. So much to unpack ...

You cannot show support for Trump or his administration because they're inclusive of all (except people who support Trump and his administration). And the equate support Trump and his administration with white supremacy.

So in their rush to ban hate speech, they make a statement of hate speech toward anyone who might support Trump. What else do you call slandering all Trump supporters as white supremacists?

It's mind-boggling how they fail to see the irony in their own bigotry.

Anything this stupid deserves to be ridiculed into obscurity along with anyone echoing their sentiments.

We can't make statements like that because we were not privy to the members' exchanges that led to the banning.

I know that and it is a shame that we don't have more information to help us understand. Ravelry isn't talking to anyone, just yet.

Apparently, the site was swamped by the Hells Angels white supremacist kitting chapter or something ... or else Stormfront has a knitting circle?

Only way I can figure anyone would post a blanket ban and maybe have a claim to legitimacy.

Otherwise, it's just Orange Man Bad.

And that right there should tell you something. Ravelry knows they made a mistake and it's a bad look for them.

I got all the information I needed in that tweet.

They could've just banned politics altogether, or the actual members that were spewing the hate, or even just announcing that they will no longer be tolerating hate speech.

But no, they specifically targeted Trump supporters (as if hatred is exclusive to Trump supporters) and went as far as equating Trump support to white supremacy.

You can't say that, we don't know what transpired within those members' exchanges.

Oh, the member in question you are replying to brought up that political posts aren't allowed, so they could have banned it under that, but they went further and made a special exception in this case, not only that, but it was later discovered in the thread that they have a pussy hat forum which would be distinctly political in nature and it's a separate forum.

So Ravelry needs to take a giant whiff and small what they're shoveling.
