Your TV is brainwashing you!

Everything on television is designed for one thing and one thing only--to get you to watch commercials. Commercials are designed for one purpose and one purpose only--to get you to buy products. More than any other agenda, consumer behavioral modification is the purpose of television. If the FCC did not exist and hardcore pornography and live broadcasts of torture and executions drew the biggest audiences, those would replace soap operas and "reality" shows in a heartbeat.

Can't wait to see what the repercussions of the new aarp commercial (smashing a house to fix the plumbing) will be.

I just had the greatest laugh at seeing the metaphor of fixing Social Security- by dismantling it

There is a huge problem with television ...all across the content issue..
A problem never taught or understood by the bulk of people who turn the boob tube on for entertainment purposes ..daily.

The word is "amusement" or amuse.

The word literally breaks down..in etymology.... a- without muse-thinking
without thinking.

Meaning amusement is what we do to keep from thinking.
Much of television is amusement to keep us from thinking on our own. Only to allow us to think along pre programed lines. This is obvious to many today in the news formats presented. Or the standard programing along emotional lines. When you begin the self thinking process you get insulted by much of what passes for "amusement " on the tube and begin the process of rabid channel surfing to find some programing worth your time.
I'm afraid I spend my time on the tube looking for musement...the dallas cowboys cheerleaders are not it..nor is Howard Stern or the Lifetime channel. Barring that I turn it off and watch a movie,read a book or work on some of my projects. Careful about movies..alot of this "amusement " is in movies too.

ok..enough of that for most of you ...
Just some information to get some of you with potential on the musing track ..and away from amusements. AKA...ignorance is bliss.

Bad news = less business.

Newspapers as well as TV advertisers know you won't go out to Best Buy and purchase that new thingamabob if you feel depressed about the war, or the global warming, or your paycheck going more towards necessities. Just buy it on credit- Just buy it- and contribute to the world ecomony (not the American economy anymore)

Now for all those republicans who think the downing memo is just a hoax- rather than believe it and rethink their values- or - admit that they were taken by the media blitz of 'shock and awe' Well - propaganda is just a whole 'nother can of worms than advertising. I'm sorry we as a nation had to be bamboozeled into a war through media propaganda, and hindsight doesn't take away the fact that it wasn't our fault if we were snookered.

It just get's harder and harder to get away with lying- and taking advantage of 3rd world countries when you have a world network now- through phone, text messaging, blogs, and viewpoints other than the American mass media- we have the knowledge at your fingertips-

Do Americans who have global company stock and make over $400,000 watch TV? didn't think so- it's like the lottery- they don't play that game-

the TV is a very powerful device and the media is a very powerfull thing.


If you ask me which is the strongest weapon in the world its in everybodys houses and in every place its more powerful than even the hydrogen bomb. ITS THE TELEVISION.

Reasons:

1- the atomic bomb destroies place and body but the TV destroies the Mind and Spritual

2- People now belives the TV more than the Mother and Father from there own blood

3- Makes use dumb and curious on useless things example you wanna know whos Brad Pitt is dating i? where he is going ? Who is he sleeping with? Does Jennifer still have feeling for Him? all that stuff makes you realise that you starting to think about them more about you . Will I dont care what he does he just an actor and at the end of the day he is just a human bieng.
4- Sex and Volince

You could see know . People know Musician and Moviestars more than polticans . Everytime you put one the TV its becomeing okay to where something reveling .

Of course TVs are brainwashing people.
Advertisements and the news.

TV most likely has a 'brainwashing' effect on people, but that effect is absolutely nothing compared to the brainwashing power of this site. Atleast TV discusses events that take place in the real world. Here, you get lizards, green aliens, grey aliens, nwo, abductions, and anything else that can't be proven outright. On top of that, you are criticized as 'ignorant' if you demand to see factual evidence before deciding, or if your beliefs happen to be different.

The ATS forums are a place for scientific and other detective work, not a place where we know all the answers.

It is a refuge where the unusual, taboo, or even illicit topic can discussed fairly openly - usually without unecessary criticism.

This is not to say that outrageous claims are not regarded with a critical eye - but nearly all claims which can be followed up on are by many of the members around here.

Usually we are able to dismiss or debunk a good 90% of the unusual or rediculous claims that are made in these forums - but it is the unexplainable 10% that really peeks most of our interest.

It is also a place where we can discuss the causes, orginins, and philosophy of our current world econominic and political climate - and debate improvements and actions which even ordinary citizens can take to help reform these systems.

Your endless criticism of our supposed ignorance only exposes your foolish and ultimately pointless malfeasence.

You don't have to be retarded to watch television day in and day out for hours on end, but it does help. I don't know the accuracy of the following statement, but I have heard that by actual tests, watching television uses less of your brain than sleeping.

Fairly accurate, in my opinion. During the sleep state, the brain is involved with many functions, primarily the hypothalamus, where experience gets resorted into long-term memory.

Watching T.V. doesn't even require any intellectual interaction so you really can't say much is happening beyond optical input and slight bio-chemical reaction due to associative interpretation...........

Science? Detective work? Try taking a look at the tread titles and then get back to me. There are some worth discussing, but most are nonsensical.

Perhaps it was my mistake not to explain myself more clearly in my previous post. The fact is, there are many people here who simply don't know what is truth and fact. Not to say that they are ignorant, but some are just young kids. It is not my personal mission to 'look out for the children', but I do feel that when a statement is made that is obviously not based on any sort of factual information, someone needs to step up and call them on it. However, that sort of behavior seems to be looked down upon around here.


That is the reason for my statement that ATS is much more of a brain-washing tool than television. Even people who watch TV 8 hours a day will know that when someone says, "aliens can read your minds and take money from your bank accounts", that that person is living in a fantasy world.

The only time my TV is brainwashing me is when I watch re-runs of Seinfield. Other than that it promised me it was telling me the truth.

Your TV is not doing anything. That is like saying its the gun's fault for that childs death. You are human, you have a mind, you can turn off the TV, you can secure your guns, you can think for yourself. Thinking that you are brainwashed to me is a little bit of a cop out from responsiblity to yourself. And if you want to go after TV, try and turn the debate towards the internet. Have you ever seen so much stuff flying around???

You got these information in front of you you could reject them or accept them. Sometimes some of the things are true and some are false

I agree with you that some of the things in this website are false and dead wrong espically on something that i have lived with it.

Example Homosexaulity or Islam nobody i mean nobody could every change my view about them because i am an Arab Muslim and proud of what i am .
There are many people trying to convice me that Homosexuality is okay and that Islam is bad and getting evidnce from websites and media that are influnce by people wanting you to belive things that are not real .

But as i am saying some stuff in the TV are true and some are not and some stuff here are true and some are not .

I forget about telling you some things are Half the truth and some are hidden

It's not exactly the television that's brainwashing you, right? It's the ideas. The television is a device that transmits ideas to large audiences.

So it's undeniably powerful.

Ideas are these amazing things that have been evolving our knowledge generation after generation. Whoever controls the mass distribution of ideas controls the evolution of culture, it pretty much boils down to that.

Given just a few generations of immersion, a culture could be entirely wiped out, replaced, and manipulated in just about any way imagineable. Given a nearly complete influence, and a well-considered programming schedule, over just a few generations one could feasibly make hairy legs sexy, or create a society of utter hedonism, or 'prove' the existence of god-like alien rulers and change the face of religion forever.

The possibilities, the power..practically endless.

One should be wary of that sort of power, as it inevitably leads to control issues. (that idea was widely popularized in America by Walt Disney & Co., do you think we can trust it? )

However...

Our ideas evolve and make us better, sometimes. We can learn things, make righteous choices, act in a noble fashion, display compassion. Those things can be taught. Television offers the oppurtunity to literally remake society, to alter the ideas going forward. We could craft a society of hard working, compassionate, spiritually inclined, respectful, honest violinists..or something.

So television, like any other tool, is good or bad only in connection with its use. Part of me says, "Kill your television!" while the other part says "Create an ATS channel!"
