Been having a blast playing with the new vacuum this afternoon
I settled on a Shark, and WOW, the reputation for ridiculously good suction is
very well earned! You know that old entendre, "Could suck the chrome off a bumper"? It applies, haha.
The carpets downstairs have had multiple passes (4...I really like this machine, lol) to get up what the Hoover no longer could, and I swear the
carpet in the hall and in the living room are now a different shade than the stairs are just from super-sucking huge amounts of dust and dirt up from
so deep in the fibers
I plan on doing an autumn shampoo of the carpets this month, so this is going to help greatly by getting that much lingering
junk up.
I've used our Hoover from the day I bought it way back when to vacuum the small throw rug we have in front of the kitchen sink, it's always done a
great job (aside from in it's death throes as of late) This new one has a bare floor setting for hard floors, and yes, I absolutely vacuumed my
kitchen (much better job than the broom does, too) The suction is less strong for bare floors than it is for carpet, but it works exceptionally well.
It didn't even spit anything back out like every other vacuum I've ever had did.
Then I eyeballed that old rug and though, "Ok, it probably needs it this week." Um. Well. I learned real quick that the brush roller setting for
carpets has entirely too much suction for that rug, it almost ate it XD The Hoover NEVER did that unless I went over the edges accidentally. The Shark
in the center of the rug? "NOM NOM, GIMME THAT!" It sucked it up into the roller area a bit, I about had a heart attack (along with spitting out some
panicked curses & scrambling to turn off the machine) The bare floor setting is more than enough to get that clean, I get the hint, lol.
And one of the biggest pluses is that it's very
quiet. The Hoover sounds like a 747 taking off, by comparison. I could actually hear my kids
over the vacuum for once. It's so quiet that I could definitely run it at night and not feel guilty about making noise to annoy the neighbors, hubby
says you can't really hear the Shark much outside, even with all the doors and windows open.
