It's not a "white civil rights rally" — this is white nationalist, white supremacist, neo-Nazi, neo-Confederate, etc groups combining their efforts in an attempt to mainstream their ideologies.

Part of the way they do this is by claiming that they're doing something like fighting for "white civil rights" or "free speech" or as in Charlottesville, "preserving heritage" in the form of protesting the removal of Confederate statues.

When you don't describe it as exactly what it is, you end up with responses like this:

And this is why "white pride" is associated with white supremacy, neo-Nazism and the like. These aren't just a bunch of folks who are super happy about being white.

No kidding! Said it many times on ATS but the definition of the word Nationalism doesn't have squat to do with a persons skin color. It is how the globalist MSM has bastardized the meaning of the word by adding "WHITE" in front of it that has everyone going ape!

This time around there is plenty of evidence on which crowd was aggressive and looking for trouble the media will try to spin it, but from what has been reported so far they can't cover up all of it.
