Sonar does the same thing in water environments like fish finders also mapping the bottom.

Call me crazy, insert crazy joke, but I think when that is done with the electromagnetic spectrum it’s called radar?

www.dictionary.com...
Electronics. a device for determining the presence and location of an object by measuring the time for the echo of a radio wave to return from it and the direction from which it returns.

Why use sonar / radar when in radio astronomy the objects of interest provide there own signal? With half the “return” time of a transmitted radar signal?

never watched the middle ball of the cradle nor mastered the stop shot in billiards huh?

its pinging a pong what the band or wave can go through or bounces off of is the same basic principle in reductionism... the concept is the same. However patent and technological constructive differences or ramifications thereof is what makes the bounces in that chain reaction complex.

Used to be a lot more complex before before computers that could auto calculate; probability is basically the same thing as the uncertainty principle.

Reductionism to understand something easily is the same thing as Occam's razor as far as knowledge goes.

Like all stars are stars... getting into types local and non local etc is where the complication and specialty of a specific field comes in.

One has to realize not everyone in this forum is an astrophysicist; so reductionism helps explain and allow others to have interest in the field by explaining it the easy way.

Then to be a specialist in the field is basically learning the different materials and jargon and or maths involved; meaning the root principle is the easy part to grasp for mastery without really any major study the specifics is just splitting hairs... so save that sort of stuff for job interviews eh? As most astronomy degrees lead to showing tourists a scripted constellation map with a laser pointer.

Of course work that boring means exit through the gift shop to help pay my salary...

If you want to get specific and are interested then by all means have at it; you'll have no competition from me.

Except photons in a electromagnetic wave don’t have mass when they are at rest?

www.researchgate.net...

by observing the behavior of photons. it is found that in addition of energy it has momentum and consequently it has an effective mass or associated mass m. However the rest mass is zero because electromagnetic waves do not exist at rest. According to conservation of energy and mass, the energy has an equivalent mass according to the Einstein The energy E =m C^2= hC/ Lambda.. Then the momentum of the photon is equals mC.

To use a newton’s cradle which is used to demonstrate items that do not exhibit wave properties transfer potential energy to kinetic energy is an erroneous over simplification?

The FRB is just a powerful burp of electromagnetic energy that exhibits wave properties, and the photons which can exhibit properties of mass when moving.

What exactly is a photon? Definition, properties, facts
www.zmescience.com...

They have zero mass and rest energy. They only exist as moving particles.
They are elementary particles despite lacking rest mass.
They have no electric charge.
They are stable.
They are spin-1 particles which makes them bosons.
They carry energy and momentum which are dependent on the frequency.
They can have interactions with other particles such as electrons, such as the Compton effect.
They can be destroyed or created by many natural processes, for instance when radiation is absorbed or emitted.
When in empty space, they travel at the speed of light.

I would say the biggest difference between the Newton’s Cradle, Billiards, and photons is... It is common photons loose their property of mass in expected interactions. Its not expected the balls of a Newton’s cradle will loose their properties of mass through collisions.

And photons are part of an electromagnetic wave that carry the properties of waves. Where the balls in a Newton’s cradle do not exhibit wave properties.

What does this have to do with you trying to compare a FRB to sonar? When it’s more like radar? What does this of have to do with intelligent beings trying to manipulate a FRB to communicate in some way?

I found it interesting that 1/3 of the currently known 36 Fast Radio Bursts are confined to a tiny portion of the sky. This is only about 2 percent of the sky, Right Ascension 16 through 00 hours, Declination 0 through -20 degrees. They're saying that FRBs are a very distant natural phenomenon, on the intergalactic scale. It seems that they should be randomly scattered. The above concentration seems to contradict that.

If the definition of FBR is

In radio astronomy, a fast radio burst (FRB) is a high-energy astrophysical phenomenon of unknown origin manifested as a transient radio pulse lasting a few milliseconds on average

-Break-

Unlike many radio sources the signal from a burst is detected in a short period of time with enough strength to stand out from the noise floor. The burst usually appears as a single spike of energy without any change in its strength over time. The bursts last for a period of several milliseconds (thousandths of a second.

So? How is the audio created of the millisecond burst? How often are the bursts actually received over an for an example?

WOW it was a Plain Ass Comic Joke Commit , it sounded so familiar , and light bulb Eureka! , it sound like these boot are made for walking the Guitar Intro ..

but so how is audio created from a Millisecond Burst ,, Ok Space time Continuum Distortion.. you realize that a whole entire life span , of a Galaxy say 13.51 billion years Our Own with in a Universe of Billions more .. all in a Single ATOM that is Being Split by ( say ) a Nuclear Device.. 1 millisecond = 13.51 billion years , in our WORLD , time is just a Measure .. the Laws of Physics can be way different between Galaxies .. you know that right ?

Laws of physics vary throughout the universe, new study suggests

Which means what? That electrons act exactly like water...

Here's the stupid thing; all of this is known and has been for thousands of years... So what's the problem? Jargon.

We have ways of protecting jargon called a trademark/copyright. When that gets down to one word? I cannot tell you how stupid a "we" as complex life gets in greed and hate. Those two not the same like any apple and orange maths will tell you cannot cancel each other out as desire bites the tail of the last one forming a triad.

That triad put into motion becomes a circle; which means there is hub... something turning. Left or right would be a guess depending on one's inversion or polarity to the spin light and dark make no difference... do you think Austrailians complain their drains spin counter to the US's? No as long as the proverbial # flushes.

So hate ceases by hate; then what happens? Greed still has to fight with desire. Any combination of those three greed, hate or delusion to bite either of those only completes the triad and starts that spin yet again. Not only in individual life but other life as well.

Take for instance some island groups in Polynesia; only eat pork every five years as a big pig run and party... ancestors of Easter Island they know what starvation is. So for three years they fast from pork and prepare for two years at the beginning and end of the festival.

At one time in that history they had to resort to eating each other... so they took to maintaining pigs something that will eat anything with not even a bone left; to remind them of such indulgent consequence as a practice. When the festival occurs everyone gorges themselves stupid everyone except the elders are allowed to look like they are enjoying the feast... as a sign post of caution. When the elders start looking like they are enjoying it... is their sign of the end times and need to tighten up on their traditional ways.

So what is our sign post for the modern world? War and domination of species without care of conservation; when the US lost the gold standard and had to go to silver? It was a warning; when the penny had to be fractured into zinc that was were the silver back to gold had to get it's savings. Greece bankrupted why? It's economy had to go not only to aluminum but also have a hole in it to save it as a resource.

So when we think of conservation; those buying a single word to trademark or copyright are so scared of the bottom they will not even test the water for depth. The Polynesians might refer to them as the hogs; the thing to watch out for... as that means the very foundation of the freedom of speech is eroding or has eroded when saying a single word comes at a price...

This of course is not new either; as in the biblical era they said god or basically the head elder tribal leader of the entire area got tired of assimilation fighting or McCarthyism and basically said let the languages blend and mix, like the neighboring tribes already had in striking a bargain in trade(s)... no issues in Texas and Mexico were there is a mix of both languages into one... the further out from that center mass the less comprehension, same as Northern and Southern "English" that sort of thing is seen world wide where cultures and traditions naturally blend and mix.

So what is the TLDR? Tomato/Tomato with the technological jargon to be able to stand apart and say that an I or We are special.

It is no different than all cultures that tried in history to keep "slaves" ignorant. Of course ignorance being a form of illusion or delusion hate and greed only continue to grow... and over time like an untreated wound? Grows and festers until the limb has to be removed or else it will infect the entire mass... that also occurs in trees, in the ground, and in the air... not to mention "space" with so much satellite junk old technology inhibiting new technology in getting a clear window out. Not to mention removal usually means dragging it back into the atmosphere hoping most of it in metric tonnes burns up instead of causes mass casualty... so a space recycle program like dragging that crap to the moon which current tech can do makes more sense, to help conserve and preserve.

Take care

I lost the whole thread, and managed to find it again.

I was watching a Youtube vid- English guy who covers audio/ visual stuff- Today's offering was vinyl records that record audio and visual. You get a decoder box, you watch music videos, kinda hipster.

www.youtube.com...

Interesting...Until about 10:50 on. Listen to the sounds, and then, have a look at the waveforms he shows in Audacity. The similarity struck me, and HARD.

What are the chances that if the signals could be decoded in the same manner as these records, that a picture could be produced? Am I taking a shot in the dark, and am horribly off base, or... could it be possible?

Fast radio bursts are being picked up by the shiny new telescope. They can be from magnetars (?), exploding black holes and yes advanced civilizations.

Teacher always told me to go with my first thought.
And never second guess myself
Wonderful piece of wisdom
Applies here as well.

Your teacher was stupid then in my opinion.

Helped me out on a bunch of tests , PSAT , SAT , ASVAB , MSCE , CCNA , RHCSE , etc
You ever take any of those ?

Dude 'always' go with your first thought and 'never' second guess yourself is stupid advice in my opinion.
...and no, I won't get into a childish pissing match about academic or professional achievements with you. Grow up and debate the point.
I think your teachers advice was stupid, you don't cool. Here, you can have another angry devil smile again, you use them way too often when you post so I decided to give you one every time we interact.

Yes childish as #, I know, but you amuse me so I'll own it.

I prefer to be childish sometimes . I am 60 and can afford to be when I want.
And , evidently the answer to my question was a resounding "no"
I had already noticed that by your inability to hold down a civil debate or conversation
Now , what do you say about the first thoughts being the best answer ?

It is a neutron star. Just like I stated in that original post.
Occam's Razor
Stay on topic and let us debate whether it is a neutron star or "aliens"

I still don't buy your teacher's advice though
