I don't understand the legal mechanisms for accomplishing this, but Democrats say that "PACKING" the Supreme Court with additional justices, would save the country from destruction by President Trump, by making the court more reflective of America's demographics. There's a growing number of calls for making this happen.

From the June 18th issue of Jacobin.

With Tuesday’s Supreme Court ruling upholding Trump’s Muslim ban, Wednesday’s decision attacking public sector unions, and Justice Anthony Kennedy’s announcement that he’s retiring, it is time to push a once-marginal idea to the top of the agenda: pack the Supreme Court. The conservative majority’s support of Trumpism and opposition to progressive objectives means it will pose a barrier to the agenda of even the most left-leaning president and Congress. This barrier must be confronted head on.

There’s nothing in the Constitution specifying the number of judges, the precise organization of the federal judiciary, or even that the Court be empowered to review acts of Congress.

In his new book, "It’s Time to Fight Dirty", political scientist David Faris proposes to expand the roster of the Court to eleven or thirteen immediately, and then pass a law allowing presidents to appoint a new justice every two years. Meanwhile, the most senior justices would be shuffled into a type of emeritus position with lesser responsibilities. The nine most junior cases would do most of the judging, with more senior justices momentarily pulled into duty in the case of a justice’s death.

If this sounds ludicrous, consider the following. First, Senator Mitch McConnell refused to even allow a vote on Merrick Garland — completely shattering whatever bipartisan norms were left around the judiciary. Second, and even more incredibly, prominent Republicans threatened to not confirm any of Hillary Clinton’s nominees, had she won — not just in an election year, but ever.

What government body would enact these changes to the Supreme Court? Or, would Americans vote on it?

Democrats at this point are the enemies of the Republic. Torerance is no longer a part of their vocab.

Messing around with the makeup of the U.S. Supreme Court could be viewed in that light.

Leftists don't care what takes as long as they get their way.

They'd happily destroy the whole country or launch us into world wars.

Clinton wanted to go to war with Russia over Syria.

I did sense Dem/MSM disappointment...like air leaving a balloon.. when Kim Jong agreed to de-nuclearize. Now, because (as predicted by SOS Pompeo) North Korea is not giving in easily, Democrats are hoping once again for a war.

The American people aren't smart enough to see the awesome greatness that the leftist/Marxist ideology would bring, so they can only force it upon us by re-interpreting the Constitution by fellow Marxists.

Who is political scientist David Faris and who does he want to fight dirty with? Other Americans?

I guess that while conservatives are at the helm we should just take the leftists out on the White House lawn and make the grass grow.

They said this in the early 20th Century and during WW2. They've been trying to seize power by extra-constitutional means for a couple of centuries now.

Yes. LET'S change the rules everytime my side loses. But when I win, it's the right thing and the other side should just deal with it.

News alert, Republicans are going to nominate Conservative, Consistitutional judges. Democrats will nominate liberal judges. Remember all those moderates each side nominated? Me either.

We all knew the stakes this past election. The Supreme Court nominations were on the Republicans radar for voting. Guess it wasn't for the other side

But let's change the rules because ,Muh Feelings.

Remember what happened last time the Dems thought it was smart to change the status quo? That’s why it now only takes 51 votes in the Senate to confirm.

I believe one each Harry Reid (D) thought that was a good idea and pushed it through...

Right now, that would take a nationwide vote. No way the Republican majority would do this.

I'm surprised they're wasting time discussing this, instead of formulating a strategy for winning elections.

I just found this article that explains why Packing the Supreme Court is a horrible idea. It agrees with you!
