From the perspective that the family unit is a form of socialism, perhaps it is human nature. However, calling socialism as a form of governance a 'natural extension' of that is flatly wrong.

Probably because it has led to the deaths of millions.

It takes power and influence from the 99% as well. Some little farmer can’t eat from his own crops because it is owned by the “collective”.

I look at it as a bridge between capitalism and communism. All three fail, pick whichever failure you like best.

Socialism is half and half, where some property and businesses are nationalized, such as large industry, factories and so on, while small business can remain private, like a corner store or a pizza joint or something like that.

Taxes are higher but only paid once. Don't have to pay when you get the check, and then when you go to the store and buy something, and then again on your property and then again on inheritance and then again on death etc. One payment. Usually adds up to more than we pay now, combined between all multiple taxes we pay at different times. Or maybe even the same, I don't know -- we pay a lot by time we're done.

All healthcare is free. From getting a tetanus shot to brain surgery, no co-pay on anything. All education is also free, from K-12 to PhD. If you're smart enough to be a rocket scientist you'll get there for free, but then you have to pay back the country with your labor for the length of higher education. So, if a doctor needs 8 years of higher education after high school, they work for the State for 8 years, before they can decide to go elsewhere.

Military is mandatory for 1 year at age 18 or whatever, for everyone.

This to me is socialism.

Your problem is that socalism is a very very broad church and people will define it, either explicitly or not, to mean what they want it to mean at that precise moment.

Personally I like the classic definition of ownership of the commanding heights of the economy.

Of course it's not free, that's why I covered the higher taxes first.

We're coming from a standpoint where our country wastes ENORMOUS amounts of money, makes trillions disappear, and whatever is accounted for, majority of it goes to military. We are a bad example of how far taxes can actually take a country.

When there is less spending overall, less black projects and trillions in missing dollars, only then can we fully understand how easy and attainable free healthcare is, and how easy free education is. We don't even need to live in socialism to get that done. We can do that as a capitalist country.

You do realize that we are just a bill in Congress away from being conscripted anyway, and it wouldn't be the first time in our history. In fact the Pentagon has been pushing for it for over a decade now.

And if that happens, we are conscripts and we get nothing for it in exchange, no free education, nothing. In fact, unless the country gives you free health care, free education and free other basics of life it should be illegal to be drafted, no matter what law the legislators draw up, like ours have in the past.

Human nature is pure darwinism.

Strong survive the weak gets eaten.

Unless your a socialist then you'll just outsource your existence to the state by majority 'rule'.

AKA called SOCIAL ENGINEERING.

Necessities in a time of war don't count, although in Nam it wasnt a necessity, but this logic of hey in this imperialist state lets give the state endless mobs of millions of cannon fodder to go subjugate the planet even further with, yeah good luck with that, like communism I will resist.

America, love it or leave it. If you want freedom, you have to accept both positive and negative forms of it. On the eve of America's birthday, might I remind you of Americans willing to go toes over lesser violations than black shirts parroting Mousulini? We still have the 2nd ammendment, (for only a short time.) No patriot is going to lay down and let the country we fought for be hijacked by Socialism.
