Someone on Twitter made an animated .gifv image/video of the surface of the comet (67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko) using stacked photos from the Rosetta image archive, it looks incredible! I have no idea how to upload or format something like that for ATS but you can check it out at the link below:

Twitter Source

Found a direct imgur link on Reddit to the animation if anyone refuses to use Twitter for some reason; click here

Also found (via a user on Reddit) a size comparison of the Comet in a mockup of it over Los Angeles, for those interested in the scale here.

Thanks for the update. I don't know if it's the same stone (comet) I heard about in 2003-4 but I feel like I know about this!

It looks like someone is welding and grinding during a snowstorm.

Almost looks fake, like some set model or CGI. I am sure its not but still looks odd maybe cause its images compressed into some type video.

Also I like the top imgur comment "This is Canada in spring!"

Very cool

Yeah, from what I can gather the particles going the same direction in a downwards trajectory in the background are all stars, and the rest of the mess going random directions in the foreground is the actual dust/debris of the comet.

Thank you for pointing that out about the stars. Didn't see that the first time I looked at it. Seems my focus was probably on the comet itself. I was thinking how cool it would be to be there in some way. If our future is bright, I hope humans will get to see these things up close. What an amazing thing that would be.

Really looks like an old silent movie reel, it's really awesome looking. Good find!

Yeah -- "A Trip to 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko", a film by Georges Méliès.

I'm extremely proficient in photogrammetry.
If anyone ever wants something like that modelled in 3d, pm me.
I need at least 3 images of the object from different angles for it to be converted into 3d

Is the probe landed in the photos? It appears to be moving.

I quickly skimmed comments from twits... according to one I saw, this is from 13km off surface... I don’t necessarily know it, but if I did, it’d be all I knew about it at this point.

yeah, reminded me of the old shackleton-era footage of arctic/antarctic expeditions

What's the "snow effect" I'm seeing?

It looks like footage from Earth, like somewhere in the Arctic or Antarctic to me.
The way rocks are lying there in the "snow", and the "snowing effect", combined with the way the wall is, etc.

Anyone care to explain what I'm looking at?

I'm just trying to figure out what this little cluster of junk is:

Here's a slower version in GIF format.

And another version that goes back and forth, just because I thought it could look good.

I don't know what it may be, but it moves in the same direction as other things that some people in comments say are stars, so I suppose it's a group of stars.

Maybe it's not very visible in my hemisphere, or isn't so prominent from Earth. I'm not familiar with this little cluster.

I think that's the Milky Way.

I didn't know it snowed on comets.
There's a Yeti hiding behind that rock.
