Apples and oranges. In her case, her private employer fired her. The gov't didn't come after her. Sadly, she didn't know the pic was taken until it went viral. So her former place of employment are scum bags and probably huge Trump supporters and that's why they fired her.

Sounds like Vietnam's problem, not ours or Trump's. Let them sort it out, as they say.

Vietnam is not the USA. Also it seems she is trying to end censorship of her music and has a history with her one party government.

She should move here if she wants to protest Trump.

Bring your sign. Meet the crazies.

your words

gotta admit it makes me glad we have the 1st amendment.

are only words. Is that how you explain it away?

So let me get this right; Vietnam bad, woman under house arrest possibly until Trumps visit is over

America good, woman loses livelihood for protesting with a finger at Trump motorcade.

I get it...foreign Governments bad...US government good.

Losing a job, (I think the lady was 52 with 2 children) at the age of 52 for exercising her right to free speech is going too far.

Being under house arrest until Trump leaves Vietnam is a slap the wrist.

Huh? Seems like you have guns on the brain.

You need the 28th Amendment badly - "Congress shall pass laws to ensure 3r's taught before posting on ATS"

Of course you would say its apples and oranges and yet the penalties and harsh reality to the sacked workers would say otherwise.
Let me know when Iraq gets a Bill of rights.
Go America

Not sure why you're making this about the American government. You seem to be missing the point. The American woman was fired by a private company. We get it, you disagree with that company.

Well the OP is making this about Vietnam and 1st Amendment - if you'd like to set the narrow parameters of where a discussion should go be my guest.

This is from the Op as well, or did you miss this?....

Seriously, why don't you go to North Korea?

There are too many here in America that would see people locked up for saying things against climate change, saying things against a political ideology.

Free speech is dying in America.

Too soon we'll be like Vietnam.

Was she locked up or told to go back in her house? Cops in every country in the world can clear the streets of a disturbance and tell them to go home. Considering this is a communist country their response surprises me. In russia they would go to jail because they have strict rules on unlawful protests. I think this shows how far vietnam has come.

It's more like she was in her house surrounded by police.

So your saying that we should be arrested for criticizing a political leader?

Did you even read the part where it says she was under house arrest?

Seriously, why don't you go to North Korea?

Pretty ignorant reply. I never said you don't have the right to protest. The problem is how you express your thoughts.

How refreshing to see a liberal twat put in her place. With the added bonus of it being a left on left action.

From the OP:

A dissident musician dubbed the 'Lady Gaga' of Vietnam was locked in her home by plainclothes police Saturday after she flashed a sign reading "Piss on you Trump" as the US president arrived in town for a state visit.

That ought to make posters here happy that supported the firing of that girl that flipped off Trumps motorcade.

Next level of suppression of freedom of speech is arrest here, too.

By that 'logic', your offensive remark should get you arrested, too.

When they come for you for your opinion, who is going to defend you?

Freedom of expression is the same as freedom of speech. You have a right to your opinion about anything, whether you gesture, shout or make a placard.

“They”, as you put it, will more than likely be of your political persuasion, and will be met with lethal force.

Tilt. Your supposed to stand for our rights peaceful, not inflict violence, back.

Violent begets violence. Isn't that your complaint about "They"? That they arrest you for your opinion?

What about her?

I would never stand for the rights of the left. You are the enemy and you will be fought on every level, by any means necessary.
