The irony is that many of those smart people cared less about the nation they apparently invented for and more about the invention.

Nationalism isn't dead amongst inventors, it just usually isn't the primary concern, unless of course the invention is intrinsically connected with the nation... Not everyone is Howard Hughes though and not every invention comes from the MIC.

Yeah, that's called Psychology and Sociology - the springboard from which all the radical leftist programs were born.
The science of "feelings" somehow equating with justice, equality and opportunity.
