If you're a Jay Z fan, check out his new album, 4:44.

My favorites are Marcy Me and Bam. I wish I could post some videos but it isn't even out like that yet.

The only people it was released to were people who had subscribed to Tidal before June 26th. Which is a smart business move by Jay. By making it a dope album and really hard to get, everyone is talking about it.

1 is Sage Francis "Conspiracy to Riot" and 2 is Eminem "I love the way you lie"

lol, I like Sage Francis but I don't think I've even heard that one by him!
I guess I didn't recognize the lyrics after all.

2 reminded me of that Jay-Z/ 3 Doors Down song.

#3 Is one of the greatest bedtime stories ever told

I prefer the old Pac to Hit em Up but he was dynamic always!

You're right, it was very savvy!

Remember back in the day, wanting to be the first one in the record store to pick up a new release?

Now I'm older, more patient. I can wait. But the world is moving along at such a rapid pace.. last week is old news already.

Smart move from a good businessman.

Curious how people rate this, blew me away when I first heard it, for something so simple

I exhist in a state of consistent transition,
Plans shifting, with insufficient ambition,
Man listen, this is my advice,
Die or fight, get caged in or take flight

The words, the message, the consonance.. as an English teacher I love the sound, as a rap fan this is top notch flow

Great bars.. 100. 5/5

So if we're going with the best, I'd be remiss not to add these mvp lyricists:

Human beings are laying on the pavement
'Cause they're a part of a mental enslavement
The cop snipers, little babies in dirty diapers
This type of life is making you hyper

My name is L, and I'm from a part of town where clowns
Get beat down and all you hear is gunshot sounds
On 139 and Lenox Ave. there's a big park
And if you're soft, don't go through it when it gets dark

BOTH 5/5 on point! Compare with #2 in my OP and you will see!

Kingu got you in a sleep spell so sleep well, leviathan the lion with 10 heads, I believe they lying to Eve's children, break the gospel, the ghost spell MJ12, altered your mind, diverted your brain, to material things, seeking some type of refuge behind a gold link.

His steelo Jeet Kune Do the way of the intercepting fist, Intercepting every subliminal diss, Geographic prejudice against increments of incredulous legislature, Psychologically, I masturbate with the hands of fate and bust nuts on Mother Nature.

Shot heard around the world, Uplift, bench press, arm curl, keep the structure of the temple
To make things simple, my existence is a ripple through time, Only concerned with what is mine, divine, Never monkeyshine, walkin down a very thin line.

Awesome thread! #10 Canibus, one of the greatest!!

Here's a few gems I like myself...

We chasing after death just to call ourselves brave
But everyday, next man meet with the grave
I give a damn if any fan recall my legacy
I'm trying to live life in the sight of God's memory like that y'all

How many cats you know speak the illegit rhyme after rhyme diligent?
85 percent represent ignorant
Either you innocent or guilty
Some of my favorite emcees fell off
It damn near killed me
Looking at the kids that was true hip-hop
Nowadays, them cats don't even do hip-hop

In the world filled with pestilence and hatred
Some say we'll be rescued by spaceships
I stay away from crooks and study books by the ancients
When the world gets too crazy hip-hop helps me escape it

'cause if you go platinum, it's got nothing to do with luck
it just means that a million people are stupid as #

Cut you short and escort you to my innermost thoughts
Dreams of fighting for my freedom in the most high courts
But jump shots get blocked and dreams get shatterred
And when the day turns night, souls get bruised and batterred

I'm wishin' this was a dream, maybe it's smoke in this mirror
Wish I could change it all just by blowin' smoke in the mirror
Been such a long ride, wishin' I was on the side
To get caffeine pills to stay awake with Sean Price
If I was by Eric Garner, I'd have yelled at the pigs
Gave him all my cash, he wouldn't have to sell that cig
Shout to Bobbi Kristina, let her know that I love her
Wish she was alive or didn't die the same as her mother
Maybe my thinkin' is off, when I blink I get thoughts
Of bullets shakin' the door, and tape around Chinx' Porsche
See it damaged my heart, I'd be right in Yams' car
To get the purp out his cup, and get his hands off the bar
Tell Stack that I miss him, see we losin' a lot
I wanna hear from Shakir, I still miss Stuart Scott
Chris Lighty, Robin Williams still to this day
I pray nobody ever feel that way, too many men die

Sometimes you gotta dig deep when problems come near
Don't fear, things get severe for everybody everywhere
Why do bad things happen to good people?
Seems that life is just a constant war between good and evil

I ain't your average cat
# rap, I'm tryna make cream, and that's that
Whatever it takes, however, it gots to go down
Four mics on stage, a mother#in' four pound

Through the lights, cameras, and action, glamour, glitters, and gold
I unfold the scroll, plant seeds to stampede the globe
When I'm deceased, by then the beast arise like yeast
To conquer peace leaving savages to roam in the streets
Live on the run, police paying me to give in my gun
Trick my wisdom with the system that imprisoned my son
Smoke a gold leaf, I hold heat, nonchalantly
I'm raunchy, but things I do is real it never haunts me

Return... to the way we were before the influx of drugs and money occurred
Return... to the way we was before the rise of lies, fake players and thugs

These are some of my favs! I will probably remember more soon as I press reply lol
Number six was kinda cheating, since its the whole verse...but it's just too damn good to not post it imo.

Yes! These are dope, thank you for posting!

I gotta get some things done but will be back after studying these..

As to the bars I picked in my OP, #1, 6, 7, 10 are legit goats- some of the best in the game
(not maybe thei very best lyrically- I kind of picked random there)

#5 was just straight lyrical combat

#2 was the perfect example of modern trash (Lil Uzi- lol! I'm so glad no one knew him!) I'd rate it .01/5 lol!

#3, 9 are some of today's favorite rappers.

#4 great (slightly underrated) rapper

Cool, I'll be back and try to figure out some of your picks!

#5 , RA. Also one of my favorite mc's. He also mentions how his daddy felt about that song in the song Legends never die (daddy's halo)
#2 is so not my generation lol, only lil I've heard is wayne. Staying clear of all those other ones.
#7 is outcast...I remember that because of that chilling line, I sampled it once!
#1, I don't know....but these words fit my life. OK..I cheated and put the words on google, it´s I aint no joke. I should know that since I still own the album it's on.
#4 is insane....usual suspects by him is also a classic track to me.
#9 dropped a great album this year... the contrast between humble and pride is so cool. One track being all energy/hype while the other one, is way more low key.

I see you also added Big L in there. He gets a 5 automatically.

Which reminds me of...

Dead in the middle of Little Italy, little did we know
That we riddled two middlemen who didn't do diddily

More about the delivery in this one though!

and thanks for making this thread, the hip hop geek in me has awoken! I have to admit I don't know all the ones you mentioned , which is fun...I have to go and research. I like researching and hip hop is my first love.

Lol, this thread was a terrible idea! It shows me how little I know

I recognize #7 Gang Starr, one of the best songs ever penned.

..aaaaand that's it.

PS VERY impressive job to you!
Even the rappers don't know whose line is whose (in the Rate the Bars clips).. here is a very uncomfortably funny moment where Remi Ma unknowingly gives props to her rival Minaj's lyrics:

Oh and that Cormega song because I love it so much:

Oh that PUN is perfectly delivered you are right!

I did recognize the lyrics Honest Expression- dope song- but couldn't place them.. great choice!

Also, well played on Mobb Deep..

Another lesser known song by well known figure

They tried to say I had some dope in the back seat
But, i'm a rap fiend, not a crack fiend
My homie panicked, he tried to run
(freeze ni**a) I heard a bullet fire from the cops gun
My homie dropped, so I hit the cop
I kept swingin,Yo, I couldn't stop
Before I knew it, I was beaten the cop senseless
The other cop dropped his gun, he was defenseless
Now i'm against this cop who was racist
Given him a taste, of tradin places
And all this, cause the [m...fer] was tryin to frame us, but I came up
Now they claiming that i'm violent

And here's a good one for ATS

I really think the War on Terror is a bunch of bull#
Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets
How much money does it take to really make a full clip?
9/11, building 7, did they really pull it?
