My family decided to go to the movies last night to catch the Lego batman movie.
Arriving at the theater close to 9pm we noticed a parking lot that was basically full. Now I have been to this place multiple times over the years and have never seen that many cars there at one time. This is an 8 screen theater too.

I'm thinking "oh great" a room full of little kids is in my future. We chose the late movie to minimize that very thing. The lobby,,,,,,,was almost empty....huh?

I ask the young lady at the counter, where is every body?
She grins and says, "50 shades opened"

Soccer mom's across the country filling seats for mommy porn. Who would have thunk it?

I tried watching the first one on cable and could not believe how terrible the acting was.
I guess this just proves that a movies quality has nothing to do with ticket sales.

Lego batman sucked by the way. All the good parts are in the trailer.

What this proves is an inherent herd mentality. It is obvious in so many other behaviours of a certain population demographic.

I prefer the book trilogy.

I'm not a big fan of any of the actors and was unable to make it through the first movie in it's entirety.

I suppose some 'sports moms' enjoyed it. To each their own I suppose.

The movies are so expensive anymore, I'd rather test my patience and wait for the rental video anyway...only about $1.50 then and if it sucks, I'm not out much.

And the idea of getting it from a billionaire sadist gets them right off.

I prefer to spend my movie dollars on films that carry an emotional, visceral message and have deep meanings and leave you with emotional resonance that lasts for days.

Like John Wick or Iron Man.

Oooooo, are you calling a cinema full of women a herd? Wait for the ladies of ATS to flame you.
Bluntone Have you never read the books. My wife went mad to get them so I thought I would see what all the hype was about. Oh my, oh my, I glanced at all three books (and when I say glanced that was a prolonged word for a look) and if that's classed as mommy porn then there is no hope for the world.
They were about as erotic as stirring a pot of old paint. Old paint with a skin on the top. And I would get more excited stirring the paint and it would be more worthwhile.
Porn it aint, erotic it aint, Hype, hype, hype.

Well if he was a burger flipper at McDonalds, I doubt he would get the same reaction.

My wife read them and I flipped through the first one and thought it was crap.
I felt the same with twilight.
My God that book sucked.

The reason mommy porn is so appealing to most women is they get to live out thier fantasy vicariously through the movie.. or book.

He would get the same reaction, but not from the same women.

Oh I know that. Women are more mentality aroused than physically. That's why they want more romance than men.

I just wonder how many men got laid last night after their women got home from this movie.
Inquiring minds want to know.

You probably have a point there.

Haha you should have been wth my republican ultra conservative religious family (with grandma in tow) when I insisted we see 2001, a space odyssey in the century theatre on my twelfth birthday (circa 1970)

The family wept.

I dug it.

You have to understand notions of evolution, infinity, patriotism and sentient computers represented everything anathema to the most of people in that era. Our genre was disney, church, zoos and circuses.

So don't go crying in your soccer mom, lego movie, batman fantasy just yet, every generation has its confusing icons held up by the system to scoff at.

Most of those that got it were probably going to get it anyway. And lots of those at last night's show went home to cats/drink/ lonely tears/ or self harm/self medication.
