Hey, don't shoot the messenger. This was in the NY Post yesterday. I guess they got tired of Cruz and Trump stories. Of course, we'll be laughing at this come May.......... I hope.

A mysterious planet that wiped out life on Earth millions of years ago could do it again, according to a top space scientist. And some believe the apocalyptic event could happen as early as this month.

Conspiracy theorists in the ’80s and ’90s previously claimed a red dwarf planet called Nibiru or Nemesis, which orbits too close to Earth every 36,000 years, was behind the events. Now some are convinced there will be a collision or a near miss before the end of April. Nemesis or Nibiru was widely dismissed as crackpot pseudo-science — until Planet Nine was identified in January by the California Institute of Technology.

Lol, top space scientist.

Ah the NY Post, there's really nothing more to say.

Oh here we go, the latest "end of the world" craze is about to hit us - but no "mysterious planet" is going to.

Not saying I believe in niburu because I don't.. But this 9th planet story has really been picking up a lot of attention lately. With media and even science..

Hey, don't shoot the messenger.

You bring crap like this then you should be expected to be shot.

First, they dont even get the Nibiru theory correct, its a 3600 year orbit according to the believers

and second

If its meant to collide with us by the end of this month why can I not see something like a second moon outside now?

It night time here, clear skies yet no doom planet that would need to be so near if it was to collide with us this month.

Is this crap you bring to us just for flags and stars.

What are thoughts? anything?

Some silliness for the Kardashian watching masses to divert their attention come July when they steal the nominations from the front-runners.

What's even more "humorous" is, if there ever was an object big enough to cause an ELE coming our way, no one will believe it till it happens.

Hey Skippy, if you had any comprehension skills you'd see from my statements that my bs meter is at 100%. The reason I put it here was because I was surprised to see it in the NY Post, as opposed to BIN or the Examiner. Believe me, I don't want or need any more stars or flags. But it looks like you could use a few. I can spare some.

Ok, thanks. I was searching for everything else but Planet Nine before I posted this. Mods can shut this one down then.

Just for the record, the article in the OP never said that planet 9 was going to hit earth. It said that planet nine would pass through the Kuiper belt, sending "Comet showers" towards earth, and that THEY would end all life on Earth!

What statements? Your 2 line OP with barely nothing to go off to get your views towards what you bring forth?

Something about the US election? It was in NY Post? So what , what does that mean?

Not everyone on ATS is from the States to know what news sites are taken seriously.

Your hope you will be laughing about it come May gives the impression that you hope it doesn't collide with us in April.

That doesn't imply your BS meter is at 100% when I read it, But I guess I lack comprehension skills

I previously survived the apocalypse and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.

If this were true, you'd be able to tell by the actions of governments around the world.

They don't appear very alarmed.

From what I understand, Daniel Whitmire has been banging this drum since 1999, along with John Matese and another fellow...

Whitmires concerns were thought to be pure bunk after the WISE mission scoured the region of space where the planet was expected to be, and found absolutely nothing like the predicted gas giant/brown dwarf, that had been posited by Whitmire et al.

His original suggestion was that an object of four times Jupiters mass was corralling all the debris in the Oort Cloud and so on, if I recall correctly. Given that his original suggestion was that this ninth planet was actually very hot, for such a distant object, one would have expected that WISE would have spotted it, if it had been there to see. Now, of course, this new discovery of this past January, suggests that there is indeed some sort of object out there, but if it had of been of the sort that Whitmire theorised, it should have been found more decisively.

My thinking is that if there is a planet out there, it is not hot, and only a gas giant, rather than a super giant or brown dwarf of any sort. Now, as to his suggestion that it could be this object which is responsible for the repeated extinction level events at the 27-28 million year mark... I do not buy that for a second. Why? Because even if this planet exists, it's existence alone is not enough to prove it as being the origin of these repeated events. For all we know, there could be a planetary body, shot out from our solar system at INSANE speeds, which none the less is in a hyper eccentric orbit around the sun, and comes crashing through the solar system every twenty seven million years, at such a speed as to make it one of the fastest large bodies ever theorised, bringing with it chaotic storms of huge asteroids and comets. We would not know anything about such an object, until it ploughed through the Oort Cloud, and rained hell on us already.

That explanation is just as plausible as the suggestion made by Whitmire, which means he has some way to go, before his theory can be proven to have any more merit than the prattle of the armchair detective does, as they mistakenly accuse every other character in a crime drama of being the culprit! More data is required before we can safely assume we have answered the question of what keeps killing the planets life forms off en masse.

What would be a productive thing to do at this point, is to ruminate on, and act to advance the methods of propulsion that we have at our disposal, so that if the worst were to happen, the species need not die with the planet, but might have a chance to escape the chaos and take root elsewhere.

Dude, lighten up. Don't take life too seriously, you don't come out of it alive anyway. You must be a real blast at parties.

HOWEVER, as someone already pointed out, the whole idea of Planet X has been talked about a lot more recently. And I see things like this that, although it's from a dodgy source, make me wonder... would we know? would we see it coming?

I can't for the life of me find the details but didn't a huge meteorite fall to earth in the last few months that nobody saw coming? Why are we so sure we can see everything that's coming?

But yes, in regards to this article. Take it for what it is.

Thanks for the explanation and analysis. Again, I don't know why the NY Post ran a story like this and gave credence to these guys. It obviously was a slow news day. Until the elites head to their underground bunkers, we're safe.
