I don't think you've really thought this through. By letting and asteroid decimate the earth, we would:

A) be allowing hundreds of thousands (depending on the size) of individuals to be killed instantly. These are children, women and men who are enjoying experiencing their existence, regardless of wether or not it has a purpose. They have a shot at a brief yet lovely existence.

B) many more will die in horrible ways as a result of the impact and not from the impact itself. Reduced air quality and lack of sunlight will cause reduced to completely non existent growing seasons. The remaining population will starve, freeze and generally decay. It would be slow, painful and terrifying. If anyone was able to survive the entire ordeal, there would be no society left, no culture, they would have to begin the massively long project of building humanity up once again.

C) As far as we know consciousness is a gift that has only been given once. We should preserve it for that reason alone. Maybe we are the only ones who can experience the universe.

You can be a negative nancy if you want, id rather look at things in a positive light. just over a hundred years ago, we were not even flying...and today we have high res close up images of methane snow on Plutos moons from a probe we sent on a 10 year journey.

I don't own a pair of said glasses. I've witnessed, heard and read about more stories of man's inhumanity to man than I care to remember.

I've also been part of, witnessed, heard and read about acts of generosity, compassion and selflessness.

I'm not quite ready to apply a death sentence to every man, woman and child on the planet. If you think a persons needs rose colored glasses to feel that way, perhaps it's time to visit the eye doctor for a new prescription.

The diseases aren't the problem. Those keeping the cures from us which they already have, are.
