Law enforcement is smart to just observe, but otherwise not contact them and give them an excuse to start something that will, in all probability, end in disaster.
TRINIDAD, Texas – After almost 15 years, what is believed to be the longest armed standoff in American history quietly came to a peaceful close Wednesday.
"Being a peace officer, you do have some emotions — that you would like to see him brought before court and the case tried — but on the other hand, was it worth all that it might have cost to do that?" said Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt.
Nutt said he didn't go get Gray because deputies could have died.

Letting them come and go is ridiculous. I can understand not trying to charge in and apprehend them, but they should be stuck in that building. No food, no water, no electricity, no heat. If they leave, arrest them. Otherwise leave them in the building.
They should have three options. Life stuck in that building, life in federal prison, or death.

That is what they want. They think they are martyrs for a cause. By ignoring them it has destroyed refashions between several of these groups of nutters and humiliated them because they have been treated as irrelevant. As the media dwindles and they have no mission they will at some point slink home in embarrassment. And nobody will pay them any attention again. When you dealing with stupid people, you just let them go ahead and let them make fools of themselves.
