How is it that talking about sex is "dirty", yet talking about zombies, death, blood and war is just fun entertainment? How can showing a naked, natural, human body be too much while murder and fighting is ok to be shown on TV?

How did society come to believe that pleasure is more "dirty" than murder, blood, death, and war???

Hopefully enough young people are sneaking peeks on the internet or playing doctor. It's disturbing to think that some young men might be seeing their first (fake naked) body on a slab in the morgue on a CSI tv show...

I always thought it was the other way around, the push for sex and nudity is at an all time high in film and music, just tune into the Music charts or go to your local cinema every now and then.

Sex is supposed to be fun and it can be funny and childish.
I have a comedy pair of sexy pants I only put on to get a laugh from the lucky lady.
Slap n tickle and all the silly Ness relaxes me and I have a great time.

Sometimes it's distasteful and unnecessary. Who in their right mind who think that raping your sister next to your dead incestuous offspring would make for good television?

It's shock value, simple as that. The Walking dead and Game of Thrones are in a 'who's the most gross' competition and it is turning me off both shows and the truth is that the Sopranos was the original and best modern age drama and the walking dead and Game of thrones pale in comparison.

what about when the two merge and become some kind of trend:

Hope I don't get in trouble, but...

The phallic symbolism in this is somewhat interesting. If you think about your standard gun cleaning kit, you have a long probe that is slowly thrust in and out of the barrel to clean out the powder residue, and a lightly oiled cleaning cloth that is slowly stroked on the outside of the weapon to clean off the dirt and grime of use.

I'll leave it at that...

LOL!
Well, they don't allow people like me to have guns. But a good blade does have a spirit all its own.

On the other hand, I have a very good friend who meets all of the qualifications of an ammosexual. He keeps a spreadsheet of all his stock including where he purchased it, amount paid, caliber, etc. He even has ammo for weapons that he doesn't have. His ammo collection is even larger than my adult entertainment collection! And that's saying something!

Two things, years ago, popped my brain on this issue Arpgme.
One was back when they were supposed to be showing us the corpse of an alien. I think it was called Alien Autopsy.
Anyway when they got around to showing the corpse, they fuzzed out the genital area. Of a supposed alien.

And the other was way back on the Jerry Springer show. They had this guy who was undergoing plastic surgery to give himself female breasts. He had only gotton one done so far. When he took off his shirt, even though he was still a male and even though only one half of his chest had been augmented, they showed the unchanged chest but fuzzed out the half that had been changed into a breast.

My brain popped. If I had to pick someone to blame, someone specific, it would be John Calvin, but of course he was just a cog in the wheel.

For me it is about the story on all subjects.

If the story is well done and the subject matter is thematically appropriate to the story, then OK.

And then I make the decision as to whether or not it is a story I want to immerse myself in and in what media and who else in my household will partake with me. After all, what is OK for me or my husband will not be OK for our 5-year-old.

Why is any of it ok? Sex or violence (of the gratuitous type, in either instance)?

Is it possible the two actually feed off of each other? If people are conditioned to consider other human beings as objects and orifices, they're going to treat them as such.

Violence is a direct and inevitable result of the dehumanization of the other.

Can't link to it because of the T&C but go to YT and check out Carlin's "Sex and violence". He shows the hypocrisy.

Would you go as far as to say "collectivism"? A shared morality?

I've read over some of the replies, but would like to add:

How did society come this way? For one, the religious foundations of our culture started it. Even though sex has always been around, it has always been mostly ignored and swept under the rug because it "bad" according to religion.

Even though we are more progressive now, obviously, it has still carried over. While we have sexuality on TV, we don't have a lot of actual SEX, but we have violence of every sort even in prime time.

The time I really noticed how media truly treats, not even sex but nudity, was when I posted video several years ago on Youtube. It was a historical short film, from sometime int he 60s called Nightmare at Elm Manor. It's a very rare film, and has a good amount of bare cleavage. Well, youtube removed that video because of the large female, mammaries. No sex, just mammaries. At the same time, there are videos EVERYWHERE with shooting and foul language.

So, why is blatant violence (even on TV) condoned, but a topless woman not?

Maybe because they're so much more common they're more a threat to our children and our social "purity," which hides the elephant in the room.

Always remember, "But what about the CHILDREN?!?!?"

I would disagree. If you are telling a story about the Holocaust, a certain amount of violence is necessary to your narrative for example. However, there does come a point where it seems that sex and violence is unnecessary and just there to have the sex and violence. That's where I part ways with it. Or there are some stories where the sex and violence, while appropriate to the narrative, is just more than I want to handle for my own personal taste.

well said, thank you.

I would add it is not permitted by the opinion controllers for measures of morality to be associated with the design and use of killing devices and the consumers of such devices as this might cause people to look up.

From the controllers perspective, the measures of human morality has always been and must continue to always be linked to sex one way or another as this causes the masses to always look down.
