Well the Weather Channel thinks it's a "Thrown cup of coffee". smdh

And for the people that think it's frozen diesel, obviously you haven't worked on a farm, of even seen diesel spills, in sub-zero winters.

Diesel does not form separately almost symmetrical 3d hexagon type objects, laid out in an almost perfect circular pattern.

There are several things that stand out about this video to me:

1. The pattern almost seems to be a tessellation.
2. It looks as if the objects melted through the ice from the underside.
3. If the video was five minutes longer, the guys would have licked it or smoked it.

The Weather Channel should be embarrassed to put that ridiculous 'guess' out there - makes their reporter look like an idiot!!!

Thanks for the info about it not being frozen diesel

As a lifelong Minnesotan and avid fisherman I have seen this pattern before.

It's exactly what a dumped out minnow bucket looks like.

Obviously those are not minnows, but a bucket of something was poured out there.

Too much to be a coffee cup.

And whatever they are they are salty.

so your saying it cant be frozen diesel because something spilled doesn't make that pattern..i dont see the connection. You are assuming that if was diesel it could only have been spilled.

It could of been spilt in with whatever else it is as s combination of factors.
Diesel is a potential due to the coloration.
I wouldn't isolate it as a cause.

Even oil spots cause rainbow colors.

Isn't it really black between the white pieces in pattern?

When they zoom out it has a Cafe, light brown tint to it... It also has evidence of melting... The most disruption to the ground is in the center then dissipates as it leaves the center...

Seems possible it was literally the result of pouring a flavored coffee out. It would have slowly spread from the center, creating tunnels and melting through.

The mixture of the cream would create the slimy effect, especially if left out.

Whatever that is, it is a disgusting to look at for someone with trypophobia.

That is the stuff nightmares are made out of, couldn't watch more than 3 seconds of the video. So gross!!

Anyone whos been around ice a lot will tell you that the dark colour ice in between is basically slush that is either melting or refreezing. its kind of solid but not fully frozen.

Direct Translation. It appears this ice formation has caused quite a stir within Russian scientist circles.

In the Internet at the beginning of this week the videotape, which provoked stormy discussion not only among the series users of network, but also among the scientists, appeared. Eyewitness imprinted strange formation on the surface of the frozen lake in the American state of Utah. On the form almost ideal circle, on top of that and in the openings.

Have no idea what this is, but I'm leaning towards something natural because of the perfect geometric pattern. Whatever it is, it looks pretty wicked!

This is really awesome this hasn't been debunked. I'm completely surprised. Why isn't there a follow up video? That alone is kind of suspect...

Playdough....

Salt causes the ice to melt.. dough then forms pockets and gives it a melted look. Also the white/beige substance "Playdough" has a form to it (as if you put it in your hand and made a fist" so to speak.

Yep,

Take a piece of homemade playdough in the palm of your hand. Make a fist. Open your hand and what do you have?

These shapes.

Actually, it hasn't been shown to be anything other than a video of a couple of dudes looking at some weird looking crap on a frozen lake. For it to be taken seriously at all, it would need to be taken past the "dude, touch it!" phase.
