Angel of lightness, thanks for informing us of the holy year of the Catholic church.

It is understandable the ire of the posters that your traditional catholic point of view would bring. I guess you are not surprised. I myself would have pointed your attention to a couple of things if others didn't do it already.

Still, we are looking towards the future, not to the past.

How do you comment the light show infront of St Peter's basilica in protection of the endangered planet?


The Catholic church has a chance to make the transition to the world of 21st century. We are waiting that since Year 2000. Or will she? The answer should be visible to the wider public, not only to closed circles of clerics and fundamentals that do not represent the 1 bln common catholics, much less the rest of the planet. Representing God to the rest of us? All those closed people for any new action of God? Some of them yes, may be, but they have to show it more clearly. They have to answer the demand of the times.

The answer should be manifested as clearly as that first of its kind light show. It showed for a first time (that I know of) that the Catholic church puts the interests of the planet and the wider humanity before its own interests. Of course one can trace back that process to recent documents issued by pope Francis (Laudato si) or even to St JP2. Not documents and words are missing in the Catholic church. More real change is needed, and much sooner. The people are tired of waiting.

If it is meant to be the church of the 21st century of the "humanity after"...whatever it means that "after."

One word of Mary, that may be developed into a new doctrine by the next pope (if there is a such)...

Probably Jesus wouldn't mind to honoring His holy Mother...How about His wife? Isn't it the cult of Mary introduced in the early church in part to substitute any reference to Mary Magdalene as wife of Jesus? How many more newly discovered ancient Gospels are needed to surface in the public space, in order to be admitted, that Jesus 33 a normal man could not possibly walk around without wife? Yes doctrine lacks that, because it is pretty much the opposite. But it is not a dogma. The absence of wife of Jesus is not a dogma. A pope could possiby make a dogma that Jesus had wife. Jesus could have had sons and daughters as well. And they could come one day, too.

The Vatican will most lightly be responsible for any new world war that happens to take place via the many fingers they have in many different pies.

The monies and financial resources they have at there disposal could end world poverty in a decade should they choose to release them for that purpose and they would still have a significant portion left over.

They dont want to save us from world war 3 considering the implications of there self fulfilling end of days prophecy aka revelations.

paradoxically, the situation is quite opposite from inside out. A small but zealous core of fanatics, both within the clergy and within the fundamental faithful, tries everything possible to torpedo the reforms of pope Francis. He doesn't want to excommunicate them, because after all they are devote catholics. They should stop sabotage the reform ASAP. Aren't they the same people who defended the dogma of the papal infallibility at every occasion not so long ago? Now some of them almost say that pope Francis is the antichrist. That is de facto a coup inside the Catholic church. They should stop immediately their subversive actions and start obey what their pope says. They are minority but very vocal and some of them still hold key positions.

Whether Francis' reform succeeds, may well mean whether the Roman Catholic church continues in 21st century. Or we wil have another Catholic church in 21st century not necessarily the same in structure and canons. (that were never established in that way by Jesus).

Enough of waiting and promises! Now is the time of action!

I support the efforts of pope and cardinals to bring the urgent question of Global warming on the scene with convincing new methods, such as the light show, in addition to the more sophisticated papal speeches in the US, UN and the encyclical Laudato si. It is the only winning way for the Roman Catholic church to continue in 21st century reality.

A reality that certainly will have to deal with things like extraterrestrials, like prolonging human life to Biblical times, after deciding the acute problems of the day - of malnutrition and social inequality even amid the Western developed societies.

As far as the moral teaching goes, let remember IT IS NOT A DOGMA and the Eastern Churches have a different number of marriages allowed and priests-married. Flexibility is needed, not dogmatism for things that Jesus never made dogmas. Let they discuss Jesus' own state of life in details, from all possible aspects.

The disciple cannot be higher than the Teacher. Not even the apostle is higher than the teacher. Jesus is and will be our only rock and head of the invisible Church, our only master and teacher. And God our only Father. So said the words of Jesus Christ, recorded in the acknowledged Gospels. Why don't they just follow them?

This is the reality the Catholic (and other) churches may face. The young generation are motivated by other means, including by smartphones and heroes of popular sagas and even games, the first of which is of course Star Wars. The Catholic Church is not at the level to respond to that challenge of the times, to offer explanation or even better - to give more information of what she really knows of extraterrestrials etc.

She drags feet instead, waiting a miracle to happen somehow. It was the consecration of Russia for decades. Now it is not actual anymore. The Catholic church must understand it still can lose and lose big. Jesus Christ promised his church not to fail. He never promised the STRUCTURE OF TODAY'S CHURCH will remain forever. He never ever created such structures. Devote fundamental catholics will certainly disagree. But that is the historic truth. Even without additional Gospels. He told Peter what He told Peter, and those few words did not include what we see today as over-expanded apparatus that is doing everything except what it is meant to do for our times.

Let we see the Catholic Church hierarchic on the frontlines to defend humanity from Climate changes and other impending dangers, that we don't even know about. Not the least the social and hunger inequality, that endangers the core of the Western developed nations, known once as the Christendom.

It is strange after so many manifestations of pope Francis, how there isn't a wide flood of words in every homily of every bishop to tel the truth to the common people, who are not supposed to know it. Then it is better the Catholic church to fire a number of clergy and to continue with the rest of devote ones. And to recruit new fresh minds, not necessarily with 7 year theology background, who know what is the truth and whom to obey. Jesus didn't ask Peter to graduate from the Jerusalem Temple school, before appointing him de facto the first pope. None of the apostles were religious educated at the time of the call of Jesus.

If ET give us tomorrow 33 year record of video of the entire life of Jesus, we will see how many things are just different. Now we can only guess about it.

Why follow a book that claims to contain the word of God when it is clearly written by Man with all his fears and fallibility at play? Suppose it's obviously for some that like or are conditioned to follow the control constructs contained within said book. Personally I imagine God would have higher hopes for humanity than worship and servitude at his bequest. After all apparently we are created in his image hence our potential is rather limitless.

Then there is the issue of freewill versus predestination, both ideologies being in direct contradiction to one another.

I am going to close this day in vespers of Nativity just commenting something that is pretty obvious. There are things in life that we can play with, or speculate about, and there others in which there is no space for such attitude.

An insult of the magnitude you have launched to the Holy Mother of Jesus, St Mary, is so low, so miserable and sinful that scares me so much, because reach the level of what in teology is called Blasphemy.

This reminds me that at the mid 1990s a very scandalous Art work was hanged in one of the walls of an extremely reputed Art Museum in New York, it was an icon of the Virgin Mary, but made with Elephant excrement.

Here the topic is clearly the Mercy that is inspired in the Christian tradition and the interesting aspect that the Holy Year was inaugurated in a major festivity of the Holy Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. I must insist as who opened the thread that your post, among others, are clearly off topic.

If there is somebody in History that has warned us in different apparitions Like for Instance in Garabandal, 1961 North of Spain, or in Conyers, Georgia early 1990s, that the Chruch was going to experience a series of situations that would compromise so seriously ethics of some of its members, in particular the ones in position of Authority, is precisely St Mary.

The devotion to St Mary is not an exclusive patrimony of Catholicism, it is also part of the Christian beliefs in the Eastern Orthodox tradition, in the Oriental Christian Churches and in the Anglican or Episcopalian ones.

The only corruption that you and anybody must be afraid of is the one that comes from the heart, when instead to feel love, mercy, comprehension for others, instead to respect the way others try to approach and make peace with God, thoughts that are of hatred, division and separation among the humanity emerge.

The Holy Year of Mercy is a very good intendend opportunity of reflection in our attitudes for others, an invitation to all humanity into think that we can be diverse but that does not mean that we must be enemies due to our differences, it is not important because the Pope has convoked it, it is important because it is inspired in the Christian concept of Charity.

St Mary is the St Patroness of the Mercy, she felt mercy for others even before his son started to practise publically it, an incontrovertible proof of this is her tender attitude in the Canaan wedding, the very first miracle that Jesus granted in the canoncial gospels, even before his public ministry began.

Actually the formula is the TWO Mary’s: One represents the trodden path to success, The Magdalene, and the other the original purity of the GOE, before the Fall--Mary the Virgin.

Dear Willtell, Sometimes I have the impression when I read the kind of so virulent attacks to the Marian devotion that what is actually really in the middle is a hidden Machism that still prevail in certain sects, where the woman is reduced almost to only a decoration in the life of men.

Only when one realize the so low value that women have in certain groups that like to proclaim to be Christians, reduced to just only the role of wives or mothers, always completely sacrificied to satisfy their families, is that it is possible to understand why is so shocking for this same people to accept St Mary in her role of Matriarch of the Church and also Advocate of us with respect to God.

It is so unacceptable to think that God wanted to reveal itself to a woman as he never did before to any Prophet?

There is too much of Gynophobia in behind such terrible rhetoric against St Mary. Of course if the Mother is treated in such a way we can't expect that St Mary Magdalene can receive a better treatment.

Do you know who were the wives of the reformers Martin Luther or John Calvin? Do you know how many wives The King Henry VIIITh of England had? or how many wives The self proclaimed Prophet Joseph Smith had?

Well the answer to those fundamental questions is crucial to understand whats going on here.
