by Warner Todd Huston 5 Oct 2015 Chicago, IL

Chicago reached 59 murders and 362 gunshot victims in September, marking the Democratic-run citys deadliest month since 2002, according to analysis by The Chicago Tribune.

The last month of summer featured more homicides than any other month this year, and more than any summer month since the prior decade.

According to the Tribune, September ended with two consecutive weekends during which more than 50 people were shot. There more than 40 shootings each weekend in August.

September ended on a deadly note not just for the city in general, but for one South Side family in particular.

On Sunday the 27th, a Chicago family was gunned down as they were returning home. One of the family members shot was an young boy, who was rushed to hospital by a Chicago cop, likely saving his life. But the boy’s grandmother and mother were killed at 7:30 PM, when the five family members were fired upon after arriving home that evening.

Chicago, the U.S. city with the strictest gun control laws on the nation had September as the deadliest month with gun violence since 2002.

That's 59 murders, and 362 gunshot wounds in one month alone. Think about that. This shows gun control does not work at all. Criminals will always find ways to get armed, meanwhile gun control only disarms law abiding citizens, leaving them unprotected against criminals with illegal guns.

You have got to wonder, why is it that some people have this idea that if legal guns are banned that criminals will have less access to them? or that there will be mass shootings? Well, look at Chicago, and New York, among some other cities which have some of the strictest gun control laws on the nation yet their gun violence is the worse on the nation.

Not to have a go at you, Electric... Because I agree with you...

But do we have to hear this a thousand times a day.

One thing I would query in your op is this...

This shows gun control does not work at all.

I think it would be more precise to say this shows that gun control does not always work.
Rather than "at all".

Your mileage may vary.

Gun control advocates never will admit it; but criminals are cowards that prey on the weak, it's a lot easier to rob and kill the defenseless.

Australia hasn't seen a decrease in murders with their government taking away guns, they've just seen less gun crime and increased crime in other areas.

Even if gun control advocates had the 2nd amendment stripped, it wouldn't matter in this country. We have something like 40% of all civilian firearms in the world, nearly one for every man, woman, and child.

We have way to many guns that if they confiscated guns from legitimate citizens the entire country will look like Chicago because all the illegitimate citizens won't be giving theirs up.

It's one reason it's easy to say anti gunners don't really care about gun violence as long as it stays in the inner cities and other undesirable locations. You won't see anti gunners posting this. Wonder why? Wait we already know, keep it in the inner cities, anti gunners are fine with gun violence.

Seems like every month is Chi towns deadliest month. Well murder is on a rise when illegal guns are on the streets. Time to put a open carry in affect. that may just cause it to drop a little.

But where has gun control really worked? In Mexico it has not been working.

Mexico’s gun control laws: A model for the United States?

In Britain, they have had an increase in gun violence since the handgun ban.

Culture of violence: Gun crime goes up by 89% in a decade

If you look at Australia, the homicide in total was predicted to go down, although in reality it kept fluctuating, and gun shootings were decreasing before the gun ban. But if you look at the average, Australia continues to have almost the same homicide rate as it had before the gun ban.

I was more thinking some of he socialist European countries...

But seeing as you mention it...

That study in England and Wales starts from 98/99...
It has no statistics from before the ban in 97.

Also gang culture has grown in the UK in the last decade.

More importantly, it says 1760 people were victims of gun crime...

Out of 9865 gun crimes...

So I'd have to say a majority of those crimes were merely possession as opposed to actual violence.
Which means this study is either manipulative, or is taken well out of context by the Daily Fail.

Duly noted though.

Nice place.
Other than the airport, I haven't been there since 1981.
I think I'll keep it that way.

BTW, if you read that article from the Washington Post about gun violence in Mexico, notice this part in particular I am excerpting below.

...
Politicians such as President Obama, former Secretary of State Clinton, and various Mexican officials have asserted that 85-90 percent of Mexican crime guns come from the United States. But the actual figure is much lower. Jorge G. Castañeda, who served as Foreign Minister of Mexico from 2000 to 2003, and Rubén Aguilar, who served as the Press Secretary for the President of Mexico from 2000 to 2006, estimate that 18% of Mexican crime guns can be conclusively determined to have come from the United States. They argue that the higher figures are invented and used for domestic political purposes by Mexican government officials.
...

Let me excerpt that last part again to see if it wakes people up.

...

The President of Mexico, alongside the Obama administration have blamed American "lax gun laws" for the high crime in Mexico. Except that the real figures of firearms in Mexico that come from the U.S. is much lower, and the majority of those guns were given to the Mexican drug cartels by the Obama administration for the sole purpose of blaming the right of Americans to own and bear arms for the crime in Mexico. It was the Obama government who provided those firearms to the Mexican drug cartels under operations like Fast and Furious.

With the city and the state broke, they won't be hiring more cops. They should find members of the community, run a background check, deputize them, and arm them.

Every block, every street, every corner. . . . citizen patrols. Taking back their neighborhoods from the filth that infests it.

Not to sound racist but what percentage of these shootings were black on black violence. Where's Obama's outrage at the violence in his hometown. I guess unless it's white on black violence it doesn't matter to him.

My husband went to school there in the 70's
even then he had to hide under his desk
while there was a gang shoot out in the
parking lot.
Love that Democratically run, gun free
town.

That dailymail article is from 2009 so is pretty old now and there was a spike as people who did have handguns offloaded them to the criminals for more than the list price but once most of them got chucked in the canal after a shooting or two it soon quietened down especially as its very hard to get the ammo and pretty much impossible to repair a faulty weapon as you can't get the parts without paperwork let alone the average gang banger having the skill.

And also the reporting changed around that time so even a call out for a firearms unit which found a broom that someone thought was a weapon (yes it does happen) was and still is counted as a firearms incident.

Theres plenty of unregistered weapons in the loft of the UK, a friend used to do house clearances and due to the number of weapons he found in lofts/cupboards he got himself licensed as it was a royal pain to wait for a firearms unit to turn up every time he found a half rusted shotgun in the loft as at least he could sort out the paperwork at a later date.

It has "quieted down" to around the same levels it was for a few years "before" the ban.

If you were to average the graph, the offenses with firearms has been increasing. There are always fluctuations, which have also been seen in Australia.

Well, yes and then maybe not. There are other forces at play. One is that the population has increased so that the crime stats should go up, it is just logical.

Now consider the world we live in where the Police get a hard on when a fire cracker goes off and kids get arrested for making soda bombs. This is more than likely the case that Police are over reporting and over reacting

These stats tell us very little without knowing the base information.

Most such graphs and stories have an agenda and quite frankly the graph screams "We will save You! You just have to put up with all of these cameras and your rights have to be curtailed.

Incidentally, if you want some fun, compare that graph with a graph of state surveillance cameras and try to figure out how the cameras have helped?

Lol, you could make a case that the cameras are causing crime.
