I feel for where you're at and I think you're choosing to be healthy by being honest with yourself and I risk the suggestion that it might be because of the pressure of having disabilities that you have come to such a place where truth, both objective and that of your heart, have been made a priority. I think many of our cultural conventions, have been, and are going to continue to go through a massive change in the coming years. Information seeking is becoming easier, and the seeker is able to navigate the protracted process of self-empowerment and self-realization with less time and money invested as was required in the past. I actually see the inviability of a college degree both a blessing and the perfect example of what I am trying to communicate. Why would we want to lend our energy to a broken education system that will send the powerful presence of your focus and mind on numerous tangents and debt-restrict your future potential when all you want to do is be equipped with the skills to be happy, productive and successful?

I agree with most who have suggested that your interest in art will be the most fulfilling to you. The mystery of the future form of our culture sends only a silhouette back in time to us that whispers of returning to self-sufficiency, self-employment, art and craftsmanship. Until that image becomes clearer, these are the staples I would form my future self around.

Screw college, go to a tech school. I'm on my way to becoming an aircraft mechanic, and I just graduated high school last May. In my opinion, learning a valuable skill set is more important than a piece of paper and insurmountable levels of debt. Make sure you go to school for something you love, or at least LIKE. I could've gone to school for a number of things, hell I coulda gone to a proper university and studied aeronautics, but that's not my cup of tea despite my love for aviation. I need to be around the aircraft, not designing them. I can't see myself doing anything with my life that doesn't involve me working on or flying aircraft.

I never went to collage, and I retired from the employment rat race at the age of 41. I'm now 47 with a retirement income that allows me to enjoy life.

I just want to live a comfortable life doing what I love.

You are NOT going to like what I have to say.
You have to work. You will not be comfortable if you don't.
Art jobs won't cut it. Don't believe those that say otherwise.

I am a 58 year old male.
I have worked since I was 17.

If your mental disabilities are along the lines of depression . . get over it.
Get outside and work in the yard in your free time.
Sun shine and physical exertion pushes depression to the back burner.
Ask me how I know.
It will stigmatize you. You will have to hide it. Fake a smile.
This world is not going to give you a free ride because of depression.

An Ass degree doesn't mean anything these days.
Unless it's towards a specific job. Nursing/Welding etc.
If your degree is generalized it's worthless.
If your credits don't transfer you got screwed.

A Bachelors degree is the new high school diploma.
It says you can read and put two sentences together.
It does not qualify you for anything.
CO-OP jobs gets your foot in the door and gives you something show HR dept.
My sons got co-op jobs making more money than I.
My oldest graduated and hired on full time.

My step son got a DAAP degree in fine arts at University of Cincinnati.
Very prestigious and very few class seats each year.
No one cares. No jobs in fine arts.
Three years later he still waits tables.
He was lucky, his rich father paid for school.

In the real world you have to work a job you don't care for just to be able to do what you like in your free time.
The sooner you face the facts the sooner you can get on with life.
One foot in front of the other. Day after day.
Shake the # off your shoes every third day.
A reasonable life is hard work.
If you don't you will be living under an overpass doodling on a paper bag.
Don't say 'As long as I'm happy". BS
Being homeless is hard work too.

What about coding? is that something I can do on the side? I do like computers too...
