I have no problem with the Russian people. I come from a Russian/Ukrainian family on my mothers side, so I really don't have a proverbial dog in this fight.

Interesting pattern, it seems there are a lot with Russian/Ukrainian connections who tow the anti-Putin line on this board...it makes you wonder why ?

I think it's easy to see why. They don't want to see their extended family suffer under the rule of Putin.

There are also other just as logical explanations as to why that is.

For example, that people might be selected from certain groups.

Considering Seraph has been here since long before the crisis began, I'd say that's probably false. There has been an influx of Pro-Russian poster who have only registered in the past few months, yet you do not see me making accusations to their intentions. Apply some basic integrity. Not everyone who disagrees with you is a shill.

While the Russians are masters of propaganda and were certainly effective at it 30-40 years ago

While we are talking honestly about this subject, I'm not aware of any Russian propaganda in the West 30-40 years ago.
I know for sure there was American sponsored "Radio Freedom", which was openly stating every hour "This is radio freedom financed by the USA Congress" lol. Russians tried to silence those broadcasts, but I never heard that Russia had anything similar to RT in the Soviet time.
My point was rather, that even if they tried to have "Soviet Union Today" it wouldn't be popular

I meant more so that Russian propaganda was still very effective against Russians back then, just as American propaganda was effective with Americans (take the communist witch hunt that occurred in the 50's, for example).

Now, let's look at that episode from the 1950's.

* It wasn't official government propaganda usually but right-wing domestic agitation which saw pernicious Soviet & Communist influence in all sorts of areas. This was fighting a domestic political and ideological battle.

* Much of the country was opposed to the excesses and political persecution.

* There were many honest socialist and some Communist sympathizers, in the Depression (for good reason) socialist ideas were popular and semi-socialist actions by FDR helped the nation dramatically. Almost none of them were working for USSR.

* Soviet espionage was not a myth but a fact, and it was major. The USSR got the A-bomb design and manufacturing secrets from successful espionage, and a number of high-level officials in the UK government turned out to be Soviet spies.

* After the end of the Cold War, a number of KGB archives were opened. The depth of the 1950's Soviet espionage was underappreciated, it was pervasive. But contrary to the political hysteria, they weren't placing agitators as movie directors and writers, but they were placing espionage agents in government and industry. And they were quiet.

Considering accounts could have been made long in advance because things like what has been going on are prepared even decades in advance, it doesn`t say squat.

The pattern of denying facts and at the same time pushing a certain truth is way too obvious.

My favourite is, "but all sides do it,"as if someone who has been the witness of a crime and saw the perpetrator would tell the police, "but both sides have committed the crime."

I would bet if there`s is a coordinated effort, accounts have been made much earlier to not be suspicious to do their job later on.

Which is more likely:

A) There is a concerted, deliberate effort to spread propaganda on a mostly harmless discussion website. Several accounts were made YEARS before a planned and orchestrated regional conflict erupted in order to push views and attempt to lead readers to one side of a discussion for no gain at all aside from getting some random people on the internet to agree with the view.

B) Someone disagrees with you and you don't like it.

Then why do you and others constantly use the excuse others have done it if you don't care for it?

Because it can be justified, so it`s just a matter on how it`s used.

I wish aliens would just confiscate all of our nuclear weapons. In the hands of our 'leaders' Its like letting little children play with guns.

60 years of nothing in terms of nukes going off hurts this sentiment a little bit, not going to lie.

This is what makes Western foreign policy so Stupid. 25 years ago, the USSR collapsed, and The West thought that their ruined economies, with Russia still possessing Nuclear Weapons, and whatever scenario could come of it, were ignorable. The Middle East was somehow more important, and worrying more about Iran developing nuclear weapons than an unstable part of the world that already did that threatened us for decades, and could again. Still, they are more worried about ISIS than Russia. These priorities are insane.

Yep! Iran, NK and Russia have about the common sense brainpower of a waskally wabbit. Look here world!@ we are ready to retaliate against a nuclear strike although we have been for the last 60 years and my penis is bigger than yours lol.

People that are this bored and in need of attention should never be in control of nuclear weapons. Ever!

I really doubt that since one electrical screw up could cause a full launch. Nobody is that stupid. Wait! NK is and Iran's leaders are right there with them. That was more Russian bluff than anything back in the day.

Hell even a drunk as a skunk Boris Yeltsin knew better than to turn the trigger based off one missile they thought was launched against them. Hopefully the morons who brought him the nuclear briefcase were fired afterwords since it was a weather rocket launch.
