I was looking at the ATS twitter account last night and I came across this tweet promoting this thread

www.abovetopsecret.com...

mobile.twitter.com...

The promotion or the thread is not what I want to ask about, it is the follow up tweets from the ATS account here

we've found that a good many of the "Putin Lovers" are online agents paid to influence social conversations.

mobile.twitter.com...
And here

I'm referring to the "online army" of social media users posting pro-Putin propaganda.

mobile.twitter.com...

I asked about it in the actual thread as this was posted under the promotion for this thread but was deemed off topic.

Is ATS accusing some members of being paid Russian shills? If so what proof is there of this accusation? Is this a blanket statement against those who don't toe the line or are you talking about specific members. Why single out one side of this when there is a concerted effort by the other side with daily threads demonizing Russia?

If this is a blanket statement it is pretty poor form to ask for help to get the twitter account to 100,000 and then use said twitter account to accuse its membership, if that is the case.

I thought that was a primary feature?

Did you read the entire Twitter conversation? The tweets are in response to direct questions from an individual and part of a conversation.

Undoubtedly there will be paid shills as there are on all sides of any major conversation. There are even paid shills promoting things like 9/11 ideas or chemicals. But it's especially rife with any political topics.

Are the comments referring to ATS members though?

It says about an online army....that's a bt more than just ATS. Online means "the internet", not just one forum.

Same with the "good deal of Putin lovers are online agents" comment. They didn't say "a good deal of ATS members are online agents" did they?

Or am i seeing this wrong?

I don't honestly think the management here are stupid enough to ruin there own site by making blanket accusations about the whole membership.

...you sure do make that impression because you do that from ATS.

Op, I believe it is in response to the fact that for example all across the web I have seen comments like" Ukraine was part of Russia, and it still is, they don't get to defy the homeland and revolt" in regards to the Ukraine situation.

Or for example " Crimea has an important Russian base, therefore Russia has the right to seize the land if it is not given freely"....

Plenty of Americans are proud and support our military engagements, but do not actively support us taking over Cuba since we have a base there.

Or england or France or Australia...etc..

That is not what you expect from a "patriot" that is pure propaganda.

Shills care little about national pride or truth, they spin and spin and spin until simthing sticks, then they all run with it.

( the quotes I quoted may not be exact quotes, been a couple months since I saw them in the comments section of a couple of different sites. It just stuck out I saw the same quotes on more than just a couple of boards.)

I read the entire twitter conversation and it is a response to a question but the ATS twitter account stated this

we've found that a good many of the "Putin Lovers" are online agents paid to influence social conversations.

Tweeters response

@AboveTopSecret You mean like Celente & Paul Craig Roberts? I'm not calling them Putin lovers, but they say nothing negative abt Putin ever

ATS response

@ArtofeVan I'm referring to the "online army" of social media users posting pro-Putin propaganda

It says that that they are talking about an "online army" and uses the derogatory term Putin lovers that a few on this forum love to use. Why use the same terminology as some are allowed free reign to use here and do they have proof of there being an online army posting?

Or meaning ATS has found this to be true of other sources.

It didn't say here, it said online...which is a rather large place.

I think its just members wanting to name call for people having an opinion which is different from thier own and nothing more than that. I dont think name calling should be allowed on ATS but see it alot on threads that involve Ukraine.

So why only single out one side? There is daily threads accusing Russia, from trying to take over the world to stealing the lollipops off babys. There is an actual effort to demonize Russia.

It`s coming from ATS, so it makes the impression it`s the case at ATS...you just can`t do that coming from the ATS hashtag without placing a disclaimer.

It does seem rather one-sided. Apparently you can directly accuse another member of being a "Russian shill" without so much as having your comment deleted, but if you accuse someone of being a "US Gov shill" you'll most likely be banned immediately.

This is for any single person who does not realise that this is occurring on allllll sides to most all arguments....armies of shills....beware.

The British military is to form a new specialist force in “non-lethal” forms of psychological warfare using social media such as Twitter and Facebook to tackle the “asymmetric battlefields” of the 21st century.

shill attack

Yes this is from RT

But I live in the UK.... I first got this from the BBC...but for some strange reason...lo and behold....I cannot find it.

A new 77th Brigade will be created, comprising up to 2,000 soldiers skilled at using propaganda rather than bullets. They must understand political activism and how to use social media to spread ideas.

Chindits

So is this proof of the shills that people know exist...and if anyone does not know about shill....just please read.

A pro-Israel pressure group is orchestrating a secret, long-term campaign to infiltrate the popular online encyclopedia Wikipedia to rewrite Palestinian history, pass off crude propaganda as fact, and take over Wikipedia administrative structures to ensure these changes go either undetected or unchallenged.

wikipedia

As we see...this is not just a Russian thang.....welcome to the war on the internet.

Can I say for 100% certain Russia is paying posters to push pro-Russia talking points on ATS....No. But some of the posts mirror each other and push the same talking points. Whenever I see Nazi this or Nazi that I really start wondering what the heck.

Proof really is in the pudding and just like the influx of poster when the Health care debate in the US was going I noticed a influx of new pro-Russia posters when Ukraine was invaded. Maybe if it walks like a duck and quakes like a duck it might actually be a........Duck.

What do you make of the daily threads to demoize Russia? Or the fact that the same members swarm to a thread to derail or insult members with seemingly free reign that don't hold the pro western view?
