Mug shot Target Practice

A South Florida family is outraged at North Miami Beach Police after mug shots were being used at a shooting range for police training.

It was an ordinary Saturday morning last month when Sgt. Valerie Deant arrived at the shooting range in Medley, or so she thought.

Deant, who plays clarinet with the Florida Army National Guard’s 13th Army Band, and her fellow soldiers were at the shooting range for their annual weapons qualifications training.

What the soldiers discovered when they entered the range made them angry: mug shots of African American men apparently used as targets by North Miami Beach Police snipers, who had used the range before the Guardsmen.

Even more startling for Deant, one of the images was her brother. It was Woody Deant’s mug shot that taken 15 years ago, after he was arrested in connection to a drag race in 2000 that left two people dead. His mug shot was among the pictures of five minorities used as targets by North Miami Beach police, all of them riddled by bullets.

And of course, the police department sees nothing wrong with this and will continue this practice, even though this is NOT normal practice. They claim it helps with "facial recognition". Uh huh!

I am not a "sue-happy" person, but in this case, I would definitely make an exception. Especially considering this is not common practice. If I were on the jury, that would be all I need to hear. They need to change their ways FAST before something DOES happen and they do find themselves sued.

This is ridiculous.

And why are they shooting at the heads of people anyway?
What happened to shooting center mass?

And of course they don't see an issue with this, why would they.

If those police came across a shooting range using these do you think they might have an issue with it?

But hey using pictures of real people is just fine in their book.

A few more stories like this and the whole thing implodes. How long do you think it'll take running these racial stories in the media before we have civil unrest on a massive scale? The bad part is that you can't even point a finger. Everyone is the problem. The people, law enforcement, and the media all have a part to play. 2015 will be the collapse of the system as we know it. The arguing is just about over on all sides. Nothing else to be said.

Technological civil war brought to you by CNN,FOX, MSNBC, and of course your Government. The Government on a federal, local, state, and city level. You're not fighting that. The people are too stupid. It's a no win.

Is this too over the top or doom porn? You decide.

For real, you use that and you would be arrested on some kind of BS charge.

And then probably 'fall' and or 'resisted' arrest in the process

That's disturbing. Had it been mugshots of known killers, rapists, etc, then I would get it, but clearly these guys just printed off any old mug shot and brought em on down to the range.

I think it's great soldiers from the Army National Guard are reporting this!

I wouldn't dare use one of those.

For one I do have some respect for the good officers.

The second reason is fear of reprisal from the other type of officers.

Agreed.
Don't see what is wrong with using the standard Mr.Noarms that has been tried and true all these years.

My ex's cousin is a sheriff in W.VA. A darn good one too. He's one of the good guys, not one of the ones you'd read about in a article like this. Things kind of articles really tick him off because it makes cops like him and others like him, look bad. Then when you have people who decide to kill cops, they don't go after these jerks! No, it's usually cops like my cousin in law that get shot. (Or the two cops in NYC. One of the ones shot and killed was retiring the next week I believe it was to become a priest. Let's not get the jerks, let's get the good guys so we can have more jerks around. Yup, makes perfect sense to me!)

Animal Farm was my all time favorite book in high school. That and Macbeth. I ADORE Shakespeare! I had that entire book memorized so so so so so very long ago. But my brain is long gone. I have two brains now. One is lost, the other one is out there looking for it. LOL

A long, long time. People want to believe that America is waking up and there's going to be one day when the populace says "Enough is enough", but it's not going to happen. The camel's back should have broken long ago, but the average Joe is too busy making a living and watching football and the latest hit TV series to do anything. Most [ obviously ] still believe the politicians have our best interests at heart [ otherwise why do they keep electing the same ones ] and , for God knows what reason, that there's any difference in the 2 parties. We see the blind, rabid defense of each here frequently. The time for any sort of rebellion has past and it's all down hill from here. Enjoy the ride.

Because snipers train for head shots for hostage situations....you train to immediately disable someones nervous system so they can't get a shot off....like if joe bad guy was behind a hostage with a gun.

As for sniper training and facial recognition ....that is certainly a part of training. They have to use pictures of someone... I find it very uncouth that they used real people from the area and then left them there. Id be upset too if I came across that. However for people questioning this...

Snipers have to train and often work by communication. Its like playing that game guess who at times where someone is describing what they see. You have to work on your descriptions of people. You could use live targets....volunteers etc to describe but that requires getting role players which isnt always easy.
