Fruit flies hatch from eggs laid on the skins of fruit like bananas. To make sure that you don't "get them" when you buy bananas, just rinse the
bananas under the tap, thoroughly. It knocks the eggs off and then if left in a fruit bowl or on a counter top until used, the bananas will not become
a little fruit fly farm.
It works like a charm.
People think that fruit attracts the flies. It does. They love fermented sap, but they are actually present on the fruit in the form of tiny eggs when
you buy it. My two cents worth.
