The republicans did a great job this election by making the word liberal negative. Well I'm proud to be a liberal democrat. The death penalty is wrong, the goverment should never have that right to take someones life. I believe in God, but I do believe in keeping church and state separate because it makes sense, even our own constitution agress. I am pro-choice because it is the females right to choose on what happens to their own body. I am for stem-cell research because we need to find cures for those diseases. I do support our troops in Iraq and I dont consider the troops war crimicals, just the President who put our troops in grave danger for nothing but oil. one thing im proud of being liberal of the most is probably the enviroment and to protect it unlike this current president. So im tired of hearing all these conseravatives complain about liberals because we do have values, but we also have commonsense.... The part you conversatives are missing.

I'm proud to be a liberal as well...for all the reasons you stated but adding to that all of the things expressed by LBJ in his great society speech. I proudly claim liberalism because that's the America I want to live in...one that takes care of its hungry, poor, elderly, disabled, disenfranchised, and abused. One where we are not "condemned to soulless wealth". Where we care about our neighbors, our nation, and the land that its built on.

The Great Society

oh and as always...all war is murder...typical liberal.

1st of all, I would like to congratulate all the proud liberals. Believing strongly in your positions is admirable. The problem with politicians doing this is being liberal will not get you elected. Clinton had to move to the center to get elected. Kerry, who was voted the Senates top liberal, had to scramble to the center and had to often agree with many Bush policies, just to make the election close.

It wasn't in this election that liberal was made a bad word. Reagan did an excellent job of this about 25 years ago, and it has stuck.

The conservative ideology has been bashed by liberals for a long time, but people know the truth, and the rhetoric does not work.

Liberals always try to play the other side as "stupid". They did this to Reagan, Bush, and conservatives in general. If they are so stupid how come they keep winning elections? But if they are "stupid" how come they are doing such a better job labeling the liberal positions?

Carseller, what is the "truth" you are blabbering about? Your post is nothing but fluff. And by the way, if you think that conservatives haven't change, then maybe you explain the deal with smaller government.

The truth is when Americans are given a clear choice between a conservative and a liberal. They will choose the conservative every time.

Notice I said a clear choice. Clinton, who was liberal, did a very good job of masking that fact.

Once again carseller, would you mind granting us some substance instead of more propaganda. I'm interested in how you feel the Democratic party has changed and why exactly it is not good for this country. Look, if you don't know, just go up on Google and try to research why someone told you to think this way. Then maybe you can explain how this is any different from the republicans wanting to increase the size and scope of government.

And in response to your avatar picture....have you ever read 1984: remember the motto of the government: War is Peace.

1st of all, where in this post, and where in any of my replies, have I brought up the size of government?

FYI, this post is about people being proud liberals. I applaud this, and I wish that elected liberal officials where proud of this also. Of course I am wishing this for ulterior motives.
Outspoken liberals are a blessing to conservatives, and we need more to speak out!

Sorry to be the one to break the GOOD news to you, but just under HALF of the population voted agianst consernative values and policies. I think you are very mistaken when you say all of America will choose conservative every time. Half the population (voting wise) would strongly dissagree with you.

Also, your avatar speaks volums of conservative values and true morals.

You claimed that the democrats only get elected if they change their platform. Yet, you can't explain what they changed it from and what they changed it to. Also, you fail to realize that the republican party has done the same in order to gain votes from the people.

And to Kidfinger, this whole pre-emptive "war is peace" policy is neo-conservatism. In fact, I think it would be unwise to even call it conservatism. It, in itself, is liberal advocating change in our policies. As opposed to conserving our policies.

Well, I call it like I see it
I dont know to many Liberals that prefer to be in the situation that we are in now. Iraq for a past example, Iran for present example. Not to many Liberals think we ought to be fighting all these ignorant wars we seem to be so good at getting into. So, IMO, That Avatar of a mushroom cloud representing peace is a clear indication of the general consenses of conservative policy. Like you quoted from one of the greatest books ever written, "War is Peace".

That's why I don't like these labels. First off, there is no standard definition of liberal or conservative idealogy anymore it seems. People will only declare allegiance to specific parties even if they disagree with one or many tenets. People believe in what they believe, and I'm sure everyone at times will believe in what may be considered a conservative idea and a liberal one.

What sticks out in my mind though is that many republicans like to called democrats socialists while ignoring the fact that the Bush administration has increased the size and scope of the government the most of any president since World War II. And this statistic was before the creation of the Intelligence Czar and Anti-Terror Center agencies, so you can only imagine how big the government is becoming now. Not to mention many of these orders centralize power.

Yeah
I started a thread the other day about Liberals not hating America, and I had a conservative tell me that conservatives were for smaller government.
I dont think that Liberal politicians would truly shrink the size of the government very much, as most politicians typically follow the wishes of the special intrest groups. I do think that a Liberal politician would be less likely to go to war just to get thier way, though.

I guess I'm still considered a liberal.

I am pro-choice and pro-death penalty. To quote Carlin, I believe, whatever it takes to make traffic move faster. Well, I also believe all rappers should be shot in the back of the head, but that's another debate entirely.

I believe in many of the social programs and I believe in a flat tax rate. (8% for everyone) I find military to be important, but I don't think it should take over all budgets. Intelligence is a great tool, but we need to tie some of the hands back again. They don't need the newest of liberties they got from Bush and his cronies and the Democrats. I believe in the Government rewarding drug companies that produce useful drugs. (I.E. paying off their R/D on approved and effective drugs to help drive the costs down. That's where new drugs costs go to, R/D, because they only have a short time to recoup their spending on new drugs.) I believe in legalized marijuana, because it is perhaps the greatest plant on the face of this earth. (Not just for recreation, but also for oil, fuel, clothing, rope, etc...) I believe every thing voted on in Congress should pass on it's own merit instead of riding piggyback on a couple of other measures. That way we can tell who truly hates our troops and who doesn't want to applaud the Bush in the same measure. I believe that welfare should over hauled and eventually phased out. You cannot simply end it right now. It must be slowly eliminated. Tort reform is a huge thing to accomplish. I believe companies like Wal-Mart are killing small market America.

I also believe that universal tolerance will get us KILLED. Racial profiling is not only a sound policy, but is a must to keep our asses alive. We know who the terrorist are, and they aren't your Grandma Betsy who forgot to leave her knitting needles at home before her big flight. IT IS RADICAL MUSLIMS WHO ARE CAUSING ALL OF THIS CRAP. I also believe in putting our National Guard on the border. And also give them authorization to shoot anyone trying to come across illegally. Then, we should root out all illegal aliens and deport them. They are called illegal for a reason. We should not consider any type of amnesty for these people. It is a slap in the face to any and all legal aliens residing in this country. And if they come here to let a kid fall out of there wretched womb, we should deport the mother and put the bastard child in an orphanage until it is adopted. The mother should not get the right to stay here with her American child.

And if these ideas make me a conservative/liberal/asshole, then I am damn proud of whatever I am.

While your sticking together would you mind taking the crackheads, homeless, and baby killers into your homes so they don't continue to ruin the cities??

Oh yes, and would you mind picking up half of the tab so that you can help pay other families that are on welfare because they don't want to work...

It's only fair.

That's why I always have to read the standard apologetic Republican, "oh know, folks, we're really moderate" bit from condidates. Instead of admitting that his views were conservative, Bush did fantastic job during the debates of admitting to absolutely nothing on the conservative front.
Wonderfully HID his conservative beliefs as much as possible.

Alan Keyes tried to apply conservative ideaology to running for public office and got beat by Obama...by 80% of the vote, with everyone else running for cover.
