MOSCOW/KIEV (Reuters) - Russia threatened Ukraine on Sunday with "irreversible consequences" after a man was killed by a shell fired across the border from Ukraine, describing the incident in warlike terms as aggression that must be met with a response.

Although both sides have reported cross-border shootings in the past, the incident appears to be the first time Moscow has reported fatalities on its side of the border in the three-month conflict which has killed hundreds of people in Ukraine.

Kiev called the accusation its forces had fired across the border "total nonsense" and suggested the attack could have been the work of rebels trying to provoke Moscow to intervene on their behalf. The rebels denied they were responsible.

Russia threatens Ukraine after shell crosses border

I am wondering what Russia is going to claim next.

it seems they are now desperately trying to create an incident that will justify a continued invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Putin has been coming under increasing pressure from the war hawks in his own government who want him to invade Ukraine.

The economists are talking about the damage the sanctions are doing to the Russian economy, warning sanctions that are sector wide would create a major issue with the Russian economy.

In an effort to avoid more sanctions Putin has been trying to disengage Russian forces assisting in Ukraine, which is resulting in the Pro Russian forces losing faith in Putin.

We are up to like 20+ lies now that Russia has tried to use in an effort to justify their actions in Ukraine, and to date they have been called out on those lies each time. The latest was the Pro Russian rebels claiming that chemical weapons were used. Investigations to date have shown no chemical weapons have been used, and the weapon claimed, white phosphorous, is not what is showing in the videos making the rounds on you tube.

So now we are to the point of 1 person being "killed" on the Russian side of the border from shells supposedly from Ukraine units.

I can we will list this as lie 21+.

I find it interesting that they were able to determine where the shell came from in such a quick amount of time. I find it unlikely that 1 person was killed as a direct result of Ukrainian fire. in fact I find it difficult to believe it was a Ukrainian munitions.

Russia sent Ukraine a note of protest describing the incident as "an aggressive act by the Ukrainian side against sovereign Russian territory and the citizens of the Russian Federation," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement warning of "irreversible consequences".

"This represents a qualitative escalation of the danger to our citizens, now even on our own territory. Of course this naturally cannot pass without a response," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin told Rossiya-24 state TV.

Russia's Investigative Committee said a shell had landed in the yard of a house in a small town on the Russian side of the frontier, killing a man and wounding a woman. The Russian town is called Donetsk, sharing the name of the Ukrainian city of 1 million people that the rebels have declared capital of an independent "people's republic".

Nothing like specifics that are unspecific to preclude verification.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out, especially with what Russia has already done in Ukraine.

Just another attempt from Russia to validate why it has done what it did in Ukraine...IMO.

What Russia "claims"? Really?

Continued invasion of Ukraine? When did that happen?
So far, Russia has shown a lot of restraint, preferring to bring it before the UN, which just seems to be getting ignored as more and more civilians are bombed and shelled by the proxy idiots in Kiev.
The crazies in Kiev will continue to poke away trying to get Russia to respond, which is the order from NATO (US), so that a heavy response can begin. That's why there are all those NATO assets around, moved in exactly for that scenario. So far, Russia refuses to play ball and isn't biting.

Maybe Russia should launch airstrikes and a ground invasion to protect it's borders. After all, if it's ok for Israel to do so........!

To be honest BritGuy…………. this is a perfect distraction to the complete and utter Terrorism being 'dished out' by Isreal against the Gaza region………………. The situation there is nothing more than murderous genicide…….

Maybe Russia should protect it's borders like you suggest……...

There is not a lot of media coming out of Ukraine at the moment. One thread I found quite interesting and puts the current events into context is the plans Rand developed about the issue. www.abovetopsecret.com...

Nato moving assets around are for those countries that fear what happened to Ukraine can happen to them.

You know the "We are protecting Russian speaking citizens from the gov't" without an ounce of evidence to back it up or was that not actually Russia's reason for annexing a sovereign countries territory?

You do understand this wouldn't be happening had Vlad not decided to poke the hornets nest and run.

Those of you who think Russia is looking for a reason to invade Ukraine, are either high on Ukrainian / US propaganda or simply have little knowledge of geopolitics and how the world works. Russians perfectly understand that Russian invasion in Ukraine is what the USA needs, another big event to avert the eyes of many internal problems and boost its economy again by providing "security" to Europe. Russia will be instantly branded as an aggressor and violator of UN resolutions and will be economically isolated/destroyed. They understand this is a war they do not need. You might mention Crimea here, but that's a different topic , from losing a major naval base , the face and direct national threat. We all know if Russia would have given Crimea away , Nato ship would be stationed there within 1 year. Now there are a few youtube videos on russian language telling Russians to think again and not promote war against Ukraine for the exact same reasons i explained. You might argue as much as you want but thats how the world works. Nobody can tell if what is happening in Ukraine right now will have a positive or negative effect , only time will tell . We just have to wait.

You find it hard to believe 1 person was killed by direct Ukrainian military fire? How many civilians have they killed in East Ukraine in the past few weeks again? Oh yea that is right....Dozens...Of course those numbers must be lies #22-36 for you.

It is not that hard to believe a shell fell on the wrong side of the border, they are actively shelling all over that area!

"Putin's continued invasion of Ukraine."

You actually just said that. Newsflash. Putin/Russia still has not invaded the Ukraine to date. Sorry to burst your bubble.

If Russia wanted to invade Ukraine; they would have done so already. You sir, are a complete and utter fool if you think Russia wants to invade Ukraine and just has not had the excuse yet. They could have gone in dozens of times already. They did not. They wont.

Look Xcathdra! It is nearly 3 months later and yet still here you are BEGGING for Russia to invade Ukraine as obviously that happening would support your false views. Let me ask you - 3 months from now will you still be crying wolf over Russia?

Putin is acting in a very restrained manner over Ukraine. You and all your followers should grow up. Ukraine was never invaded, and it will not be invaded now. I just find it funny how you all see Putin as Hitler lmfao!!!

Hello,
I can see (and tell you) that there was an invasion of crimea several months ago by Russia which lead to annexation of the area into Russian control. If Russia were to invade or rather "annex" more of Ukraine then it would be a “continued invasion" of Ukraine wouldn't it?

Please try not to deny that Russia invaded Ukraine thank you.

Oh yes and please do remeber that Russia brought in alot of assets to the Ukraine-Russia border before they invaded crimea.

Russia already took crimea to protect its own borders, please explain why they should take more?

When did that take place??? By invasion you mean the democratic election they had in Crimea?

No, by invasion I happen to mean when they rolled in in the first place with tanks helicopters and heavily armed troops whilst simultaneously denying that these troops were theirs.

Yes, yes I'm sure that the election was democratic when the voters had Russian guns at their backs and poll results were most likely heavily skewed.

Do you not remeber this thread?: www.abovetopsecret.com...

Democratic elections you say...

So they had the choice as to whether they should stay with Ukraine or go with Russia, because that would have made it democratic which it wasn't.

Also you do know that less than 50% actually wanted to go with Russia?

Also when you send armed troops into another country that can be and is considered an invasion.

Def of invasion...

invasion (ɪnˈveɪʒən)
n
1. (Military) the act of invading with armed forces
2. any encroachment or intrusion: an invasion of rats.
3. the onset or advent of something harmful, esp of a disease

www.thefreedictionary.com...

Now is this not what Russia did in Crimea, because that would be considered an invasion by the definition of invasion?

no - they've been trying to avoid being CAUGHT in eastern Ukraine.

However since the commander of the militaty of the "People's republic of Donetsk" is a Russian citizen from Moscow, and a Ukrainian helicopter pilot is being charged in Russiatheir protestations seem rather week - especially since Putin admitted Russian troops occupied Crimea like everyone was saying....

Unless you believe everything is the fault of the USA/CIA/NSA, etc without question.
