Report: More Than 92 Million Americans Remain Out Of Labor Force

The Bureau of Labor Statistics announced today that the U.S. unemployment rate dropped to 6.3% for April, the lowest since 2008.

Not bad, BUT...

They also reported some astonishing numbers that continue to be a thorn in the side of politicians.

The civilian workforce dropped too, by 806,000 (compared to March's workforce number increase of 503,000).

In March, 91,630,000 Americans were not in the labor force.

April has that number at 92,594,000, a giant increase from March by 964,000 people.

The fluctuation in workers is the only reason for the official unemployment rate drop apparently.

WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Despite the unemployment rate plummeting, more than 92 million Americans remain out of the labor force.

The unemployment rate dropped to 6.3 percent in April from 6.7 percent in March, the lowest it has been since September 2008 when it was 6.1 percent. The sharp drop, though, occurred because the number of people working or seeking work fell. The Bureau of Labor Statistics does not count people not looking for a job as unemployed.

The bureau noted that the civilian labor force dropped by 806,000 last month, following an increase of 503,000 in March.

It is almost like these numbers have been cooked to show things as better than they really are, but we all know this administration wouldn't manipulate facts to their advantage.

Anyone that has looked for a job or even just spoken to their friends and neighbors knows that things are really bad out there and they aren't getting better under the failed policies of the last six years.

Sooo damn relevant...

This is the reason why they don't approve the unemployment extension.

An extension that is " paid for " but hey lets give Ukraine millions of those taxpayer dollars but throw a middle finger back to those same taxpayers that are in need of help

Cook the books and make it look like unemployment is going down with a .1 percent GDP growth.

I'm curious if there's a meaningful gauge on how many jobs actually exist. We're quickly heading towards an automated future where millions of jobs simply won't exist for the workforce.

My question is , what are All these Unemployed people doing to Live other that Gubermint Assistance ? Stealing ? Spunging off of their Relatives ? Living Off the Grid ? Sooner or later they will become Violent because of their situations then God Help the rest of US............

I could have swore this was at least 1/3 od the country a few months ago..

I could have sworn i seen it at 105 million or something.. I remember posted about this a few months ago..

If I remember correctly in 1860 80% of the population was in farming and ABOUT 15% in manufacturing and another 5% in the service industries. Now its 2% in farming and about 50% in manufacturing and 48% in the service industries. So the future seems to be in the service industries.

In case people are wondering, there are 315 or so million people in the US as of 2010 or something.. So this would make the total people not working around 1/3 of the US population.


I cross referenced both posts because they both seem so oxymoron'ish.

I on the other hand think that unemployment is around 20 maybe 30%.. I remember back in the day when I started working where when you walked into a place and they said they were hiring you would get hired... That is back when unemployment was like 3 or 4%.. Unemployment being 7% ya I dont think so.. I and my wife bother have been looking for work for a good while and cant find anything suitable..

Looking at the US Debt clock there are 317 million people in the US.. they also state the above link that around 91.8 million people are not working either.. so.. I would assume the above link is true...

I don't think unemployment is that much, it seems a bit high if you ask me.. I do think it is more along the lines of 25 to 30% however.. All you have to do is look at debtclock site and see..

We have about 317 million people in the US..
There are 144 mil taxpayers..

They say 92 million aren't working... which is why I say 37% is to high..

I want to point something here.. Back in the 90s when unemployment was like 4 or 5 or something.. I can walk into any place fill an app and get a job..

Today it isnt that way..

From what I understand alot of places are putting ghost hirings up.. Meaning they will flood cragslist, monster, and crap like that with fake jobs to make it look like there are jobs but really aren't..(I will find this also..)

Plus this is government saying 6.3 they dont count people who aren't collecting unemployment.. which as u see on debtclock is way way worse..

I've heard of this phenomenon too. Where a company will have a position open for months while their remaining employees are forced to pick up the slack. After a while the position is eliminated because productivity remained stable or rose with no increase in manpower.

Situations like that leave people working harder for the same or less. While the owners make more for themselves.

We're headed towards a future where jobs don't exist. Not because of one government policy or the next, but because our technology is exceeding the need for jobs.

My friend their already doing it, their staying on BLM land, if the gate is open you can camp there for free for two weeks before you have to move to a new location.
That's the way my husband and I dry camp, if there's a fire danger, there'll be a sign posted.
Highway 89A north out of Sedona to Flagstaff, AZ. there's BLM land just 10 miles south of a Walmart on both sides of the road.
Take the the 260 to Show Low and to Big Lake, there's lots of people staying on BLM land there too.
We pick the oranges, grape fruit and apples from our trees and give away to the people camp there with kids that need a little extra help. Most are working, they have a tent set up or they have a van or suburban truck to sleep in.

What we'll have sooner than later.

Maybe forcing all the jobless into buying some insurance from the health care industry will give them just the nudge they need to get off the couch and go find a job.



Also in comparing the numbers to 1971 you have to remember, a good amount of labor jobs paid enough to support a whole household. So in effect we're not making enough money to support one person in todays economy and there's not many manageable options for work for the average person anyways. At some point a person has to just give up.

Yes, things are really bad, whether you live in a big or small city, and I've been in both since the big recession of 2008. In my town, people can get a lot of part time jobs(well not really a lot but some) that pay between 7.25 and 10.00. Lots of people have to get more than one job just to have full time work. That means constantly going from one job to another, doing double shifts, forgoing benefits, shifting schedules, etc.
Also around here, there are more public sector jobs than private sector, mainly because the nutty Progressives and Socialists and environmentalists decided that they do not want any industry here to spoil the view. It is a fact that the public sector jobs are paid higher than the private sector ones and there are many seniors, VA, and Medicare people here as the tax base to support an overgrown public sector and unions.
