its gui is basically the same as any other version on windows but with a 2nd optional gui called metro, it still has control panel, file explorer, hotkeys etc.
the enhancements are quite good, system file protection, file history and in-depth error logging.
installing is a breeze as well. one old amd800 box on some obscure m/b i used as a server for a 1980s print plotter installed without a hiccup and didnt even had to add extra drivers. a modern box with a ssd raid array installed fully working in 9 minutes from usb and thats faster than i could get a vm running with any other o/s.
using libraries is a hit hit n miss at times but that mostly venders dont apply microsoft policy for doc storage
but all in £40 or so for a o/s is reasonable

The thread title says "no fix for XP users". Well I have an older PC still running XP, and support for XP ended in Early April 2014, but it seems like I'm still getting updates for internet explorer. I just got this Internet explorer update on May 1st so I think the thread title may be wrong about not getting security updates for Internet explorer:

support.microsoft.com...

Applies to

Internet Explorer 11
Internet Explorer 10
Windows Internet Explorer 9
Windows Internet Explorer 8
Windows Internet Explorer 7
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0

Not sure if that's related to the problem mentioned in the thread OP or not but it does seem to suggest even XP users are still getting some Internet Explorer support, not that I need it, since I never use internet explorer if I can help it.
