After reading the article the following can be stated:
The USA and other western powers are not the only one to hold military drills. And normally one holds said drills as a message, and one that should
show and prove to all that a country is more than willing and capable of launching a military force. When it comes to China, is it sending a message
both publically and through diplomatic channels what it considers a line in the sand.
The last time that China did such where the west was engaged in a military conflict was during the Korean conflict. It drew a line in the sand, said
if you cross it, then it will launch a counter attack and through its full weight against those doing the attacking.
China does not want North Korea having nuclear weapons, it is not happy about such. Nor can it afford a mass influx of refugees coming from North
Korea up into its country. It would be similar to if say Mexico was involved in war with say its neighbors to the south. The first response of the
civilian population would be to head north, and the USA is not prepared for an influx of refugees or causalties, from the people running up into the
country.
China ultimately is still pulling some of the strings of the North Korea. North Korea can not afford to lose its alliance with China, as it would
cost deeply, in the loss of vital supplies that it needs and requires to function. So it is going to threaten and do military exercises, and the
military drills that the Chinese are doing is a sign to both, South Korea, the USA and its allies in the area, along with the North Korea.
