Well, I'm not going to say I support Russia's position but I do understand it and it does make sense from their point of view.

I guess you could look at the Russian move almost as a parallel to the U.N. peacekeepers, so far, fingers crossed, they seem to be there is a peaceful policing role to stablize the area. The Ukraine at the moment could be argued not to exist with the ousting of the government and with that uncertainty wouldn't it make sense to protect military assets?

The problem is of course that it is a sovereign nation and by all recognised laws of war, sending an armed force into another country is a declaration of war.

I think what will likely happen, so long as N.A.T.O. don't get too twitchy, is that once the country stablizes a bit and a new recognised government forms this will all likely blow over and the Russians will keep a stronger military presence in the Crimea area.

I don't think at the moment there is too much to be worried about.

Just my thoughts

of course it is peaceful, this is Kiev, you will not see anything military there soon

There doesn't have to be any military action for violence to break out.

If I were Russia I also would not want Dmitri Jarosch anywhere near the top of the government in the Ukraine...
Such a dangerous man got power after the protests, that was just a wrong move by the Ukrainian government and seems to be ignored by the western media.
The government of the Ukraine right now was a failure, a lot of the original protesters don't even want them.
They are as dangerous and corrupt as Janukowitsch and Timoschenko would be.

The victims will always be the people, sad story.

The people have been manipulated into Euromaidan. Peasants with a poor education being paid bus rides to Kiev for protesting, then told what to do and not do by the fascist goons. All on payroll of the West.

But have you got articles about Dmitri Yarosh being given power in the government? That's some even badder news indeed. Those guys are the equivalent of Al Qaeda!

Wellll dammmmmnnnn - that means WAR!

Ok, all sarcasm aside - I'm still not sure what this is all about - but I'm sticking in and trying to learn.

That being said - I feel better about what I'm doing than Obama. I hear he's drinking beer and skipping defense/strategy meetings.

I don't mean that to be off topic - it isn't really = think about it - if the leader of the USA isn't concerned why should we be?

Right?

What I don't understand is, what's up with the clandestine approach? If Russia was trying to keep the peace, why didn't they roll in with their flag and colors showing saying we come to keep the peace, restore, and maintain order?

Why come in there like a paramilitary force?

Well here in lies the problem, the world knows Obama isn't really that interested, so Russia virtually holds all the cards, against a weak, disinterested White House.

For America to act unilaterally would be extremely stupid. Sit back America and have a pleasant morning in church or watching television.

This is a NATO concern and nothing is going forward without primary meetings with all parties involved, including America.

Although I am really into 'Film', there are more important things going on which could escalate...

I hope it doesn't but I think if Russia were to invade Ukraine, other European Countries would get involved and then it could spiral! I don't think we want this thing to escalate beyond just a quarrel between Crimean Region! If it comes down to it, just hand the Crimean over to Russia fully as it is Pro-Russian mainly with Russian speaking people.

I cannot personally speak to the situation, but he did say he would be exempt from the initial draft at least. Sorry this thread is too huge to try and find it..
