It does skip occasionally. It depends upon who the parents are and what kind of genes they have. Your dad just got "lucky".

Didn't you just say previously that:
BS bipolar presents itself when it presents itself or whatever you said.
So which is it?
Is it bs or does it TEND TO BE DIAGNOSED IN YOUNGER PEOPLE just as I said and you bsed me...this isn't a pissing match. Mental health is something that I don't jest about nor take lightly when someone seeks advice for themselves or a loved one.

Yes it is very real. Look at it this way. Our brains and the chemicals in them controlling mood and everything else, are subject to pulls and tugs from gravity, magnetism, pharmacuticals, foods etc. And thats everyday.
The brain is a very soft and delicate organ with many susceptibilities due to any or all of the above, or a combination of them. Its not unreasonable to realize imbalances in one's brain are pretty normal day-to-day.
It happens. Try to get a qualified diagnosis by a medical or psychiatric professional, and good luck to you and your family.

Good to hear he has stabilized. Has he ever had concussions in the past ? Head trauma or

The good news is it has been about a year since his last episode and he has been staying on his medication. He is now maybe 60% of the man I grew up with but he is living a fairly normal life. His girlfriend came back and is helping him out as well.
So, here is the kicker….I am wondering if bi-polar is even a real thing or is it possible that he is/was demon possessed or is it something like HAARP that messed him up? My dad has always been very outgoing and smart but also has always had something…..like a glass cover over his personality. You can see into it but can’t quite get in touch with it. He was heavy into the Masons (31st degree) and pretty much my entire family thinks it is more "spiritual" than medical.

emotional trauma ? Is he a veteran ? How stable were his parents ?
. . . just curious myself, I have dealt with some one who has 'bouts' and also who has a 'glass cover' ;
and
I just have to wonder, if it is either due to child hood trauma, genetics or just plain evil

It is very dangerous for him to take himself off his meds. I had a friend who did that for years. The last time he said he felt better and could think more clearly and was quite positive about life. I think it was a week later a family member called to tell me he commited suicide. Make sure that if your Dad needs meds that he continue to take them unless a doctor says otherwise and weans him off.
