Is there an "official" news source other than some blog?
I'd like to see this being reported officially

The Japanese would stand in the fire and deny it's existence. It is called Bushido, basically they would do anything to save face, including destroy the world. You can bet your little tushy they care less about radiating the USA.
Sadly they part they are denying is that 89 tons burning out of control is (as I said when this kicked off) a ELE event. This is not a joke or doom porn. I hate doom porn and have laughed in the face of it since joining ATS.
However My uncle wrote the ballot argument that shut down the Rancho Seco nuke plant in Northern California when I was 11 years old. I am now 48 and like to think that I know a fair bit about the effects of radiation.
If this situation at Fuku goes fully critical (I suspect it will) I and my small little family are heading for South America. I will sell my belongings remotely as I know a ton of stupid postriches that will ignore their reality and be happy to help me out.

"The only thing TEPCO has actually confirmed "......Right we should trust TEPCO because?!?

This headline needs to stay at the top of the pile. If Fuku goes "off" we are all gonna die horrible deaths, eventually. Radiation poisoning is not a fun way to go.

You declare war on those in charge and not the citizens of Japan (they seem to be clueless to what's going on), and you do so because they are single-handily killing this planet and not allowing other Govt's to intervene to help... That's why... I choose everyone else of the world over Japan, sorry if that makes me bad...edit on 3-1-2014 by jhn7537 because: (no reason given)

I don't understand how there are people who downplay this situation as a "it's not really that serious" type scenario... We have a nuclear plant that is nearing critical levels and is dumping toxic waste into the ocean, while contaminating the air at the same time. Ocean is being destroyed, the radiation is slowly creeping its way to the West coast of the US, but so many seem to think that this is all "doom" porn and nothing else... I really would like to hear the reasoning from some of you to why this situation isn't as horrible as many of us believe? Why do you downplay the situation?
Fyi- just because you have family over there doesn't mean they are "in the know" with everything that's going on there, just like how the US Govt. hides LOADS of stuff from us citizens here too...

I can hear what you're saying and I would love to agree. But I do feel the article goes a bit further than that. They seem to be of the opinion that “pellets of radioactive fuel, ejected when the reactor exploded, went into the spent fuel pool located above the reactor and have begun melting down so seriously they are boiling off the water in the spent fuel pool.”Should this be the case “the situation could escalate rapidly out of control.”
That seems pretty serious to me, like it's a completely uncontrolled reaction which they have no ability at all to view or guage. I suppose technically you are correct, but it also seems as there is an undercurrent in this, through various quotes, that says "Yeah this is the pellets and yeah, this is quite possibly getting ready to go south quickly." I hope you're view is right. I would rather be wrong about this than watch the World burn, honestly.
Nuclear energy experts have told TRN that the ONLY way this could be happening is if radioactive material previously ejected from the reactor explosion in March, 2011 has mixed together with other materials and has begun its own self-sustaining reaction(s), also known as a "criticality." Put simply, another "meltdown" may be taking place.

Here is the problem, this is all based off the reporting of a lone blogger. Here is a quote from the TRN article, which the article you linked is based on.

Who are these nuclear energy experts the author has spoken to? What are their qualifications? Are they real? Or are they simply the voices inside the authors head?
The author simply does not provide any creditably to this story.

I think I already know the answer, but I'm still curious and would like to hear the opinions of some members.
What does this mean for Alaska. We're probably totally screwed, right?
Also, what if a guy had a healthy diet rich in iodine, chloride, and other healthy immune system builders. Would that build some defenses within your body, strengthen your thyroid?
Or with the levels we'll most likely be facing does diet and lifestyle even make a difference?
