Well, heres my final product until i get more practice in.
I'm not good enough yet to give it any spectacular visual effects but it's not that bad with the constructive criticism gained from all of you.

Wasn't too long ago Cody was a wide-eyed noob lost in the avatar wilderness. Now he's putting out some pretty kick-ass stuff.

EOMS it's all about diving in having fun mate. Look how much you've improved over the last 24 hours

I'd seriously recommend entering the comps, it gets your creative eye in, let's face it we all want to beat BFFT (don't tell him I said that, he's a lot bigger than me)

If that was done in gimp I take my hat off to you. I simply could not get gimp to work for me, I found it very user unfriendly.

Now about that light effect,WTF. Its AWESOME and i cannot for the life of me figure out where on gimp you can do that

Just a hint, if you use .png in your searches it quite often shows you images with the background already removed it saves a lot of time.

And I think BFFT is in for a very big hug in 3........................2.........................1

Welcome aboard! I see you are off to a great start! We have an awesome team
of artist & people .

OK I hope I'm back... I ran the hard boot, then systems extensive test & everything passed.
I then I got a new passport for Win 8 & was able to back up me computer
w/o it shutting down. It has been on for 2 days now & running normal...fan & all.
Keeping fingers crossed & looking forward to the new contest!

Hey Cody,
I found this great website with free photoshop brushes. It has ca. 1000 or more. They look amazing and can be used for more effects.
I've already downloaded at least 300.
You might know this website already,but just in case here it is:

Best way is to learn then you dont need excessive amount of brushes, more you have brushes more time you actually spend finding them.
I noticed there were a ripple brush in that page too.. and its SOOO EASY to make

Fill layer with gradient tool ( mid gray , dark gray, light gray )


Use distortion and twirl effect


Use distortion and zigzag filter and select ripple pond effect


In select tools.. color range and select light mid gray colortone.. and new layer via copy


In blending option use bevel and emboss in that new layer..after that flatten image


Place the image above the water, adjust perspective..


Turn layer into soft light mode, make a layer mask and hide with soft black brush unwanted pixels.. duplicate layer and resize the ripple a bit larger and reduce opacity.. Voila

Mrs C had some good news today (no she isn't preggers as far as I know ) but her contract has been extended to include the summer holidays so we'll still have 2 wages coming in over the summer, until her shiny new one is signed next school year

So she's taking me out to dinner to celebrate wooooooooohooooooooooo
Assuming I get off ATS and book the table LOL.
