This is fantastic news- too bad this hasn't happened in America yet. I am currently dealing with wanting my boys to get in scouts, but their application makes it sound as if non-churchgoers aren't welcome.

How is a child an atheist??

Humans 'predisposed' to believe in gods and the afterlife

The child has to be taught "NOT" to believe in God or a higher power...

As one commenter says:

I think it's interesting that the scouts sacrifice their values and then change their pledge to say "do my best to uphold our Scout values."

I've never understood why people would want to join an organisation that doesnt agree with their values.
Like women wanting to be priests in the Catholic church, or gays wanting to be members of the boy scouts, or the case in this thread.

1. An organisation thats been around for a long time has values of A, B, and C.
2. If you dont agree with those values, then dont join.
Rather simple, really.

Great news, I reckon their numbers were dwindling (like most churches) and they needed the new blood to keep the movement alive.

so?
They also have to be taught there are no unicorns, that gravity works the second you step off something high and not when you realize it (and after you hold up a yikes sign), etc.

kids think everything is magical, then we teach them over time how things actually work.

but no, a baby doesn't know of deities until it is taught to them somehow. kids know nothing until its taught to them.
Feral children have never had such notions of deities..human -culture- is predisposed to teaching in gods and the like.

1) Many organizations change with the times, Golf, Military, etc. To say a organization is locked forever in bad habits because when it was created it didn't know any better is not a good argument.
2) what if you agree with 99% of them, and want just the 1% to change into a less primitive mindset? A catholic woman whom see's that the only reason why she can't be a priest isn't from the book but from some man ruling a thousand years ago has every right to debate such things.
Your argument is for stagnation. that never serves society.
