it’s becoming increasingly likely that the exchanges won’t be ready by October 1, when they’re supposed to open for enrollment. Mass confusion and excessive costs will result.
Even if the exchanges open on time, there’s little guarantee consumers will actually have insurance options, as Obamacare’s architects promised. Major insurers have indicated they plan to operate in less than a third of the exchanges. In California, for instance, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, and Cigna are all choosing not to sell policies through the state’s exchange. This will undoubtedly reduce consumer choice.
Employees working at small businesses are unlikely to have any choice of plans in the exchanges designed for them. The Obama Administration has delayed full implementation of the Small Business Health Options Program, or SHOP, in the 33 exchanges it will be running. Workers at small businesses were supposed to be able to log onto these exchanges and choose from among several competing plans. Instead, employees of a given firm will have just one option through the exchange until at least 2015.
That lack of competition on the exchanges will yield higher prices for businesses and consumers.
And Obamacare’s raft of regulations and costly benefit mandates will only drive prices higher. According to a new report from the House Energy and Commerce Committee, major health insurers expect average premiums for individuals to double — and in some cases, to quintuple. Small-business premiums will shoot up anywhere from 50 to 100 percent.
The Obamacare train is derailing right now. The only way to stop it from crippling taxpayers, small businesses, the health care system, and the economy is to cut the engine and pull hard on the brakes.

I voluntarily dropped my insurance 3 months ago, because if I did not we would be homeless. I have no car loan, no credit cards, operate on cash only, use coupons religiously and still could not make ends meet due this economy. I held a small hope for Obamacare in the back of my mind until now. Now I'm pissed!
Even if opt to just take the fine, the economy is going to crash and it will be harder to survive each month.

You complain the Obamacare is to blame for rates going up for the past year even though it isn't in effect yet. Obamacare isn't the blame the greedy insurance companies are the blame.
Well, it’s been an interesting week in health care land. For a while now, independent analysts—and conservative critics—have raised concerns that Obamacare will dramatically increase the cost of individually-purchased health insurance for healthier people. This would, of course, contradict President Obama’s promises that “if you like your plan, you can keep it” and that the cost of insurance would go down “by $2,500 per family per year.” What’s new is that liberal columnists, facing reality, are conceding that premiums will go up for most people in the individual market. But they’re justifying it by saying that “rate shock” will help a tiny minority of people who can’t get insurance today. If they had said that in 2009, would Obamacare have passed?

Health care costs will never go down as long as Congress is in cahoots with the doctors and insurance companies. You cannot throw money at them and expect that will make health care more affordable. Doctors and hospitals have to be held accountable for the prices they charge. There needs to be laws passed that doctors cannot own the hospitals. There also needs to be oversight to check against fraud. I went to an emergency room several years ago with stomach pains and was there for three hours. I received an MRI and EKG, some intervenous meds, and some jello and crackers. The doctor billed me for $3000.00. The Radiologist billed me for $2000.00. And the hospital billed me for $11,000.00.
One should not be saddled with a lifetime of debt for a three hour hospital stay that diagnosed nothing and cured nothing. Three hours in a hospital should be able to be payed with out of pocket money. It should not require years of payments.

Obamacare means everyone except the very poor can no longer afford to go to the doctor. The poor will get the best care. I cannot afford to carry a decent plan for my family as the premiums are too expense. With crappy insurance, I cannot even go to the doctor because I cannot afford the extremely high deductibles and copays.
Obamacare sounded awful in the beginning and has only gotten worse.
Not to mention companies paying additional tax so wages will be cut and unemployment will increase. What a mess!!!edit on 28-6-2013 by GoldenVoyager because: (no reason given)
