Possible Ghost Photo

My sisters boyfriend sent me this picture and I am presenting it here to see what y'all can make of it.
The segment that I sectioned off in red is the supposed apparition. I really have no background information about the house except that it's pretty old and kinda out in the sticks. I was told the hallway was empty and where the 'ghost' or whatever it is, is, was just a blank wall.

ETA: Both he and my sister tell me that they hear footsteps at night and doors open and slam shut, I know it all sounds cliche but this is all I really know.

Looks like a Fraggle-Monkey.

Hey there TTD ... I have to say this is one of the more interesting 'ghost' pics I've seen in a while ... there definately seems to be some kind of apparition there and from what can be seen in the picture no obvious source of reflection or shadow.

To me it looks like a man with short hair / jacket / shirt all with a distinct 30's feel (would that fit with the age of the house) ?

From the activity you describe it sounds like a previous occupant who isn't quite ready to vacate the premises just yet but with no manevolent intentions.

Do they smoke? Looks smokey to me or misty even. Nothing in the house that may cause that effect?

I'd say the 30's would fit in with the age of the house, it's pretty old.

Interesting.....have your relatives every seen this thing, besides in the photo?

Were they trying to get a pic of this thing due to feeling a presence at the time, or hearing noise there?

We lived in an old house and saw an apparition like this one time...and that was enough. There was nothing but evil emanating from it.

They have not seen it outside of the photo but he took the photo because of the recurring footsteps going up and down the staircase.

curious as to what prompted him to take a photograph of that spot?

Kinda looks like a great Pyrenees almost to me, but what do I know? Ghost Dog?

Wonder if they could capture a similar image again, I mean I agree with the others what ever it may be it certainly does resemble a canine form....

I think it is most likely a finger or a part of the hand that was caught by the lens for a moment, while holding the cam. If it's a phone cam, than it is more than likely. There is a moment while your attention slips towards the "take photo" button, I've seen some photos catching the edge of my finger and creating a shadow in that part of the picture.

I'm going to try and go over there at some point in the nearish future and take pictures with my phone because it has a beefy 8mp camera.
